i chimed in about acrylic sheilds in an older post and got FLAMED.poly for me I've had too many things bounce off my windshield that would've hurt a lot if my shield was acrylic.

should be made aware of the significant differences between polycarbonate and acrylic windshields, especially in terms of the latters propensity for shattering and cracking, which relates directly to the amount of protection one should expect. If that equates to 'throwing them under the bus', then so be it.

Agreed. Nobody is throwing LRS under the bus at all, the discussion is more about acrylic vs polycarbonate shields.

I bought a LRS shield a couple of years ago for a RK and it cracked in the first 20 miles, a little rock hit it. Called them and they refunded my money. So kudos to the company but acrylic sucks.

Polycarb VS acrylic is a no brainer. Polycarb is what is used on 300+ MPH, 5000+ HP funny car bodies.
Yes, I have a LRS WS and have had it for 6 months. It's been on and off my bike at least 20 times and have no cracks or any issue whatsoever. I will buy a polycarb WS as soon as funds permit.

Well I too will join the bandwagon. I knew polycarbonate was superior to acrylic, but that video is an eye opener. The bullets and the hammer don't impress me as much as the small rock from a slingshot. That's more likely to be our nemesis. Unless of course you spend alot of time riding through gang infested neighborhoods. I have a LRS Ultra on my bike that has given me good performance for the money but I too will be investing in a Polycarb shield soon. And as others have said, this is no dis on LRS.

Good Post BTW

I've had acrylic windshields for years and never got a crack on any of em, what preceded the crack?

I will go polycarbonate the next time, but my LRS 9 " recurve is holding out just fine/going on 3 years(they don't make the regular recurve flip anymore) and I have another one after that to replace it with.

Next time will be Fast Aire Aero though.. it's polycarbonate.

But so far no issues with the LRS.. price was like $50 bux too for each one 3 years ago.
Can't beat that.. The Polycarb is right @$90 I think.

I had taken the windshield off the bike to wash it. I was reinstalling the windshield fitting it into the bushings and that is when it cracked.

Guys, I have seen in person what a bird @ 65 mph will do to a "impact modified acrylic" windshield. Not me but a fellow rider. Not a LRS but the same type material. It shattered, luckily the rider was not hurt.

Don't let the term "impact modified acrylic" fool you. It will shatter.

Another friend of mine, riding a Road King with a factory stock polycarbonite shield had a different outcome.

A small piece of 2x4 about 7-9 inches long fell out of the back of a truck in front of him running about 60 mph. He said he saw it coming but closed his eyes and hoped for the best. Traffic was close behind and he could not slow suddenly. It hit the windshield and bounced off, you could see some small scratches but the polycarbonite shield stopped the piece of 2x4.

I am in no way bashing LRS or any other acrylic windshield manufacturer. But, you get what you pay for. Polycarbonate is much, much, safer than acrylic as the video shows.

Like I said before, no more acrylic for me.
