The kit I have will change volume, skip tracks, and turn the head unit on and off from the handlebar controls. No tone control.

When you go out of the ipod via USB the head unit retains all controls. It does pick up wherever you were when you powered down.

You can search by album, artist, playlist, etc. But not from the handlebar control, from the faceplate control.

My FLHT didn't come with the two lower guages and that's where I mounted my component tweeters. Had an idea to move my fuel/voltmeter guages down low and mount the tweeters in those slots. TONS of improvement.Center/center, those speakers were raised up 3" and out 1" while pointing inward slightly. Much improved soundfield

I have been playen with stereo stuff for a few years now...and the best advice is the same as always....you get what you pay for... Sorry for the long post.........

The first thing I did to my limited when it came home was pull and sell the h.k. There junk, plane and simple. if you want a cb and intercom then good for you, to me, its useless.

I then installed a alpine head unit with a hawg wired install kit. This was my first experience with hawg wired as I have always been a biketronics fan in my previous bikes. Hawgwired had a nicer install kit, I will admit, but the control module is junk....had issues pretty much from day one and they said "its fine". Currently I am running the hawg wired install kit, biketronics "module", I switched to a Sony GT650 (which is now a 660 I believe), JL AUDIO XD400/4 amp, Speakers are JL Audio ZR650's up top and critical mass 6.5's in the lowers. Now this is pretty expensive stuff, but if you watch ebay deals can be had.
I tried the RF pbr300x4 and its a "nice cheap" amp however, it doesn't even come close to the JL Audio in sound quality when combined with the sony. I had an ARC mini installed for a couple years and it was ok..but not enough for 6 speakers when the tour pak is installed.....still for the same price the JL is superior "to my ears".

I would however like to try the alpine amps that Glacier runs and might if I get bored with this set up, which I doubt because for 4- 6.5" speakers there is nothing around here that sounds this good. crisp and clean with good bass feed when sitting still..........I listen to my bike more than than my shop stereo when out there working.....

Campos, is the backlight on this head unit able to change colors? I had my HK unit changed to red lights to match the rest of my gauges and I'd want red lights on the Sony as well. Also is it marine grade?

How did the Hawg Wired stuff sound with the aftermarket head unit? I'm running the double shot 150 watt setup with 6.5" ZX series speakers. I'm invested about $750 bucks in this system with the rings, grills etc. I'm curious if it would really come to life if I went with another head unit but if I were to do that, I'd want a marine grade head unit and be able to use my handlebar controls but don't care about the AVC and I'd like to have red back lighting on the head unit because I've paid good money to have all the other gauges red to match my pinstripe.

I'm also running a JL AUDIO XD400/4 amp (with JL C2 6.5" speakers in the fairing and lowers). It will accept hi level inputs through the RCA inputs. It has adjustable input levels. I'm very happy.
