I'll add my 2 cents worth; I picked up a decatted headpipe from a guy on eBay for $120 shipped. Now I changed my own pipes on my 04 heritage so was I was comfortable do this. Fedex truck showed up and within 15 minutes I had the heatshields off and about another 20 I had the whole thing off, installed and bolted up in about the same amount of time....
I have to say, for the amount of $ I spent I'm EXTREMELY happy... Deeper sound, LESS heat and quicker throttle response! Ya you can do the true duels and get better sound and performance, but this is the best bang for your buck.......
I'm not a wrencher, so my decatted pipe (which I got from a fellow Forum member) was put on today at the dealer. The tech rode it and was surprised that the XIED's and the Stage 1 worked so well together. On the ride home, the bike sounds and runs GREAT!! No more heat either. I'm a happy guy.
So the dealer will install a pipe with no cat.... I have a 2013 with extended warranty. I was wondering if a no cat pipe could be used as a reason for not correcting warranty problems. Read some posts about it but they seemed to vary. I guess I will call mine and just ask... They are good to deal with but kind of run the shop "by the book".
I specifically asked about the XIED's and the decatted pipe, and the service manager himself told me there would be no warranty issues. But then again I have all of the service work done there, so they see my bike on a somewhat regular basis. I suppose different dealers could have different perspectives. It sure can't hurt to ask. Good luck.
Decatted today using drill method. Predrilled about 8 holes with 16 inch long small masonry bit. Then the 5 dollar 16 inch Irvin 1 inch wide speed drill. Took about close to 2 hours and I have a crappy drill., Also hex bit end on my drill bit broke so had to weld another speed drill on the rod. I was not able to get to the end of the chamber anymore with the original one. About 99.5 % is gone. I planned to weld a wire brush disk on the rod to "polish" the inside but metals are too different so that did not work out. Keep in mind I am not a great welder. Good enough for me at this point in time.
Can I reuse the head gaskets or should I just get new ones? I will email fuel moto tomorrow to get a new tune for the power vision.
