Because it doesn't conduct electricity, dielectric grease is used in many electrical applications to ensure a sound metal-to-metal connection. It provides lubrication and protection without adding any significant bulk. You wouldn't want it to conduct or else you would have pin to pin crosstalk. I believe using it may relieve the fretting caused by the vibration ensuring good contact between the pins and female receivers. I am sure that replacing and then adding the dielectric grease would be a better approach but I didn't want to get that involved as of yet.
I hadn't either and I also hadn't read about it before it happened to me. After riding on the shoulder for 2 hours @ 12 mph while traffic flew by me I was able to get to the next Harley shop. I shut it off and restarted it and it ran fine. I just didn't want to take a chance of shutting it down out in the middle of nowhere, but after reading here that shutting it off and waiting, or cycling the ignition, that it most always clears, I could've saved myself the frustration.
There has to be a better type connector to use in this heavy vibration proned area.
Cannon aircraft connectors but I would'nt hold yer breath waitin for the moco to use them
