I currently own a 2008 Dyna Superglide Custom, don't get me wrong I love it, but I'm starting to regret not buying a touring bike for as much as I ride. Another thing Im not bought on is riding with headphone in my ears for audio on the long rides. Now fast forward I had to go to the dealer to pick up some parts and I noticed they had a used 08 FLHX with 13xxx miles for 14,500. I know that in 09 they had a frame change. What I'm asking would it be justifiable for me to stick with an 08 and add a stabilizer or spend the extra 3 to 4 grand for an 09 newer because I plan not to modify it much. The only possibility I would do would be exhaust and air. So any input would be great and thanks in advance!!

well I have an 08 flhx and believe me, I can't imagine a frame change making any significant difference here. The bike rides very nice and I can't see making the upgrade just for a new frame so if you feel it is a good deal and a bike you want then go for it. It does have the bigger gas tank and six speed which is a nice upgrade over the previous years so in a way this is actually a good model to get. I went through the same process when the 09's came out with the new frame and wanted to trade it in. Only thing that would make me do that now would be a really great color AND some other significant upgrade. I'm not even sure the 103 is such a great upgrade now so go with your gut and enjoy.
I think that is too expensive for a 2008. I would look at '09 and newer. Eventually the previous generation bikes will start to have parts phased out. Additionally '08 is a year with some parts that will only fit that year.
Sorry, but I have to disagree w/the 09's not being a major improvement over 08's...rode both the 09 hands down is quieter, smoother, cooler (temp) & vast improvement - the frame/suspension changes alone are worth the year jump.
I made the jump from an 06 Super Glide to an 08 Street Glide and that difference alone is HUGE! The gearing sucks but I will fix that and they do run hot. I wanted an 08 or older because I prefer the narrower tire and fender, call me crazy but I'm just not a wide tire guy. An 07 would have been nice just for the throttle cables but oh well, still a damnn nice ride.
I went from a 2005 touring model, having done ALL that I could reasonably do to stabilize the frame, to a 2012 touring model just recently. The difference in the frames from pre 09 to after is like night and day. That being said, I'd still rather have a 2008 touring bike with some frame work to do on it it than a non-touring model. The older I get, the more cool tourring models become!
I have the 08 sg, the taller gearing is a little more shifting compared to the 09 and up, but that is the only noticable difference, the famous bagger wobble is there, but I have only experience it once or twice. ( you won't forget it) Even today that wouldn't be a deal breaker if the price was right. You really have to be riding it hard to feel it. The only thing that would make me think twice is the few one year parts for down the road. My 08 may have company in the garage one day, but won't ever leave the stable.
I wouldn't be scared off the '08. I have an '08 SG and ive ridden a bike with the new frame. There is some improvement but it's not all that and a bag of potato chips like some claim.
