Cops won't even look at you for the speeds in states mentioned as long as your not in town. Speed limit is 80 in a lot of areas out there anyway now. At 85 you'll be getting passed like crazy.

1.) motor will be fine running up to redline, do what ever you want. always a good practice to occasionally close the throttle while at highway speeds, the high vacuum will increase top end oiling. This was essential on the older bikes, and I practice I still do.

2.) aerodynamics, the front end has less traction at high speeds on the batwing fairing. be careful, feel it out, get used to it, watch for crosswinds.

80 MPH = 3085 rpms

downshift when you need to

Should be just fine. We run 80-85+ for hours on end out here, all Harley's, without any issues.

I love running hard in 6th gear. Bike really comes alive at about 85, seems like 3200 rpm or so it will pull like a freight train when you roll it on.

Last September, rode double 503 miles from Tulsa, Ok to San Angelo, Tx. It was 100°+ for most of that trip. Turned around the next day and returned. Most of that trip was done with the cruise set at 80 mph. Almost a year later, and another 13,000 miles, still runs like top.

I would be a good idea to start with fresh fluids but the bike will handle that just fine. Be prepared for a few more gas stops!

Last trip I took, I averaged 85 MPH. 700+ miles in 10 1/2 hours, three fuel and stretch stops. After the ride, I felt great - no aches, cramps or iron butt. I'm never going back to a non-bagger!

85 to 90 sustained speed. No problem at all you can run like that for days.
