If you are content with your bike and plan on keeping it, then buy a tour pak.
They're worth it, and very handy, and give you lots of room.

If you want all the options for a tourpack it will add up. I started with the standard stripped king tourpack detachable when I first bought my Street Glide in 2010. Then I added an amp, speaker pods, LED side markers, LED wrap around lights, luggage rack with LED brake light and black hinges and black lock cover and snaps. I would have saved a bunch by just getting an ultra!

My Bike is a 99 I have both packs for mine regular and a chopped handy as socks on a rooster. The chopped pack got off ebay was not a cheap rout around 1200. after paint and quick mounts Mine is the red one.

I picked up mine from Mutazu. It is lighter and a bit smaller than the HD, but I think it matches up with the lines of the street glide much better. The paint was better than I expected and was just a little darker than my Sunglow Red Harley.

Price was $138 and included a nice 2 piece backpad, two inner pads and attaching hardware . It needed 4 holes drilled into the bottom to bolt to the HD detachable mount, but is now easy on easy off in 30 seconds.

I expect this rig to hang on my garage wall most of the time, and attach it for longer trips.

Again it is not HD quality, but comes with a lock and restraint cables installed.

Felt comforting to be able to lock my full face, and a 1/2 helmet inside when eating lunch the other day.
Where did you get that price? Web site shows full pack as $389

FWIW--I just bought a King TP on ebay with lights, LED's, backrest, luggage rack, and speaker pods. No mounting rack or wiring harness for the speakers or lights. The ONLY problem is that it's orange and my bike is Black Pearl.

The Tour Pack was 900 shipped. I figure I'll have about 1500 in it by the time I'm finished and mounted on the bike, but that is with some extras.

I think I would look at the options you mentions carefully. Yours is a new bike to you so no real attachment, and a TP is a handy item to have. If you can get into a TP for your bike w/tax, paint, lights, rack...etc. and do this under $1500 it might be the best bet.

Now, the other option is to unload your current bike and find roughly the same bike with a TP for no more then a $1500 increase, then go for it, but this might be a chance to get something you might like better. I'd consider looking for an 07ish Electra Glide with a Quick Detach kit...or something of the like. So many options available to get what your looking for and bike/equipment for sale, look at everything you can before surrendering to pay out said cost.
