Default Paul Yaffe Monkey Bars

I have a couple questions about these bars on a Street Glide. First can you use the stock wiring and cables on the 10" bars and second, can you use the OEM fairing mirrors with decent visibility? Any input would be much appreciated!

i replaced stock throttle wiring with the version that doesn't ahve the green connector in the middle. Could probably use the stock, but it'd be a PITA to get wired.

also replaced the clutch cable with a slightly longer verson. tried stock and it was just a bit short and would engage the clutch when i turned.

mirrors - no. at least for me...maybe if you are shorter or taller there could be a chance...slim, but maybe.

i put on 10" this winter and this was my experience.

I have 11" santee and replaced clutch and extended wires. I would say you could go without wire extensions if you want to.
Here is a pic

Wiring, yes, as far as controll wires go..you have to do some rerouting on the right hand side but it will work.. like others said the TBW harness has a connector mid run...makes it even more difficult to pull the wires...these bars are probably the hardest to pull the wires through cuz of the reverse bend at the top...you can either cut out the connector and solder the wires or buy a Screaming Eagle harness from HD...its about $100 and it doesnt have the green connector

Cables... i say no.. others have said they did it but i don't see how..maybe if you don't run the wires through the fairing like they should be but i think that would look sloppy.
i went +4 on everything...oh and FYI, you cant just replace the upper brake line... the stock unit doesn't have threaded connections at the splitter under the triple trees so you gotta do a whole new set up.

second, can you use the OEM fairing mirrors with decent visibility?
as far as the mirrors...this is something i'm debating now..i did a painted inner fairing together with the bars and didn't put the fairing mirrors on cuz i didin't expect them to work..but i've hesitated putting on bar mirrors... i keep looking under the grip where the mirrors would be and thinking i bet they would still work..somewhat obstructed but still usefull...then i actually saw a guy with 10" mokieys and fairing mirrors and it did look like it would work...but let me add..it looked like it would work FOR ME..you see i'm only 5'6" so its pretty easy for me to see under the grips....if someone was taller like 5"10 od 6' i'd say no go on cuz you'd have to croutch down to see under the grips... i know with 12" monkey bars fairing mirrors are no problem

doing the Monkey bars is definately an operation, it snowballs, first bars, then brake lines, then clutch cable so you may very well have to pull you exhaust off to do that... but i gotta tell ya...it is the BEST thing i ever did to my bike...the comfort, the feel and the ATTITUDE !

hope this helps....

I used my stock cables and wires but I had to reroute everything but the brake line.

You don't have to change wires or cables but.....
I would replace the cables with something that looks good. Plus, you may want to extend the clutch cable to make it work. Changing cables is EASY compared to pulling the wires and you have to pull wire no matter what size you put on.

I don't know how people are not replacing the cables... I went with a plus 2 first (friend gave me one) and it was still to short for it to be routed correctly, and it as it should be. I eventually went with a +6. Also extended the brake when I went to a single front brake. For less than $40 for the wire extensions... Worth it! I'm glad I extended everything... Made for a simple instsll... bolt down, plug in, and hook up cables... No fighting nothing! Money in the bank!

12 inch MBB on my EG. Stock cables on both sides. Clutch cable does not run through the fairing though. Stock TBW with connector (run it first). Other wires all extended with basic wire from a spool and soldered (don't use connectors). PITA to run the wires when you get down to the last ones (lube them up).
