Default new bars

i have a 09 streetglide with stock bars on it, I am 6 foot 5 inches tall and would like to get the bars higher and back a little bit to me if i can. I would like to use the stock mirrors so i would need bars to go a bit higher then the stock mirror setting and be able to use the stock cables as well but would change them if i had to, if any one has some pics or info of bars they have used that would be great.

With your height I would say 14" bars minimum, depending on what you like maybe 16" bars.

There are many different brands, LA Choppers, Wild 1, Paul Yaffee, etc. You can also have BR Customs make you a one off set of bars too, or pick something they have online. The options are endless.

It's all personal preference aside from the correct size.

Get at least 12" to be able to use stock "built-in" mirrors.

10" block them, which was annoying for me at first but I love my Tribal Black mirrors so I lucked out.

But for someone your height? Yea, 12" minimum. If you want your hands at or just above shoulder height, go 14"
(the 10" put my hands about 1/2" below my shoulders, but I'm only 5'8" so I'd bet the 12" or 14" would be like that for you)

General consensus here says that if you go more than 2" difference on bars you may need to change the clutch cable and brake line at a minimum.
Up to 2" you will need to route the clutch cable in a different way than stock but those who have done it suggest 'no probs', although I recall one poster here that had a problem with the clutch cable hanging up somewhere. Maybe try the search function.

Correct.
my 10" bars, which are technically 2 1/2" taller, can use the stock cables & wires....although the clutch cable is then stretched as far as it can go.

I ended up getting a longer clutch cable just to be sure.....but got one that was TOO long.
The math given to me by the Service guys was: Take your bars and minus 8" and that's how much longer you need your cables, both clutch & brakes.
So....with 10" bars, I should have gotten +2" (I got +4 and that created issues on how to route it without getting in the way of everything else and pinching against the forks.)

So if you put bars taller than 10", you'll need new cables and wire extensions.

When I put on my Wild 1 575, I did need a +2 clutch cable but the stock brake lines were fine with plenty of slack. I re-routed wires in the fairing and did not use extensions.

I'm getting a complete kit from Hill Country Customs myself. Everything chrome, controls installed and pre-wired, all necessary cables included. Keeps it simple for me. They have 12, 13, 14 & 16" kits.
