I'm leaving tomorrow morning from Jim Thorpe, PA. Heading up past Great Sacandaga Lake, then to Lake George to spend the night. Friday I'm going up to Lake Champlain, taking the Plattsburg ferry across to Vermont, and then looping around the upper part of the lake. I might stay in the Champlain area or head west toward the Adirondack Park for a night or two.
I'm planning on going up Rt209 then taking 9W to Rt5 then Rt147 past Sacandaga then onto 9N up to Lake George. I'm looking for suggestions on the route I'm taking and any must see/eat/drink or stay places in the area.
Private message me and I can give you all the details you need. I live about 20 minutes from the ferry crossing into VT. A lot depends on what type of riding you enjoy and how far you want to go.
I'll leave the routes to the other poster. I will say you have picked a great ride in a beautiful area - I know - I live here and ride it every chance I get. AND the weather is forcasted to be about as perfect as it could be. I took a four day weekend in anticipation.
..I was up at Champlain earlier this month. Fort Crown Point is a good take at the southern area of the lake...great area for riding, have a nice trip....
my son and i did some of these areas a few weeks ago. the road from lake placid to plattsburg (86 to 9n i think), was perhaps the most beautiful ride we have been on in the east although we are limited to new england.
i also suggest consideration to riding up to rousse point and take down the lake champlain island road. it is about the same total time as the ferry, but you get to ride and it's very cool.
Just up there last weekend. My youngest goes to SUNY Plattsburgh. Great bar in Plattsburgh on the marina. The Naked Turtle. Too bad this weekend is their closing weekend. Great riding country.
