If your not in a rush, sell your bike yourself, and while you are doing that shop around for a way better deal, considering what you will be putting down you should be able to do a lot better.
I bought in late August in 04 and the dealer was dead, I did very well.
Y buddy went to the same dealer in April and as far as I am concerned lost his shirt.

I got all kinds of extras as well as less than msrp, I got 20% anything in the store for three months, a hog membership, I forget I think a cleaning kit, and a bunch of stuff like that plus my bike, they even gave me the 20% off my add ons I had them do prior to delivery.
Look around at other dealers too even out of state.

Also having been a Harley salesman I can tell you call on the phone rather than go in, know exactly what you want and what you are going to have to work with.

They will work harder to get you in, let them know you are talking to a few dealers so you arent coming in until you decide there is a deal that works for you.

You have all the leverage right now, once you go commit its over.
Never be in a hurry to do this, it takes away a lot of your leverage.

There are times of the year where the dealership is just dead with sales.
Go poke around their used bike lot and wait for a newer salesman to approach you,
(the vets tend to stay clear of the outside used bikes) shoot the sh#t with him and in doing so qualify him by asking about sales this month and ask what his busiest month was, etc.. does he like his job, who sells the most bikes, etc.. stuff he wil want to talk about just pry some info, and get an idea of how badly they need a sale, then you will do much better once you know what you are dealing with.
JMHO
They have a studied, taught and practiced system of games to play with every customer, so join in the game, get lucky or get screwed.

p.s. if you are in a rush, do it all faster, just call more dealers shop more aggressively, etc.. it will pay off in the end.
Whats the rush though? its a bike, a toy, you have one now, just relax, if you add the pressure of time frames you are shooting yourself in the foot, the dealer ha all the time in the wold.

Another tactic I saw work many times was a guy would come in with his wife and his checkbook and his old bike, about 20 minutes before close, stay an hour and a half, lol and in the end the exhausted manager will give you the store to close the deal and go home, try it on a Saturday night.
A hungry dealer wont ask anyone to leave and come back, they will close the door from others coming in sometimes but they will not let a potential sale walk no matter what, the owner will have their heads if they do.

It might suck but you can either play the game and come out on top and learn some stuff and forge a good relationship with a dealer that you know your stuff and you only buy on your terms, or you can cave and just buy and they know they own you after that.
Dont be a dealers pet, make them work real hard for their money.

I was such a good salesman I was on track to take my boss's job in a few months, I actually had a couple customers I worked with come to me and thank me and put cash in my hands for working with them and saving them cash on a deal, one guy heard what a salesman gets for a commission and came back and paid me the same commission straight to my pocket, lol.

I obviously refused it but he insisted and told me how thankful he was he met me got what he wanted and so much more than he ever thought he would have been able to get, so he made me take it.

Anyway think, go slow, do it right.

Excellent info. Thank you for taking the time to put that up. I had to read it twice. Enjoyed it.

If you want a 2013 go to the harley site and look up MSRP for the bike with all the options. Once you get an MSRP price work your way down. No reason to pay above MSRP these days. Should be paying less in most cases
