93 elctra glide 96000mls regulator replaced reading 12.86 volts at batt does fluctuate, when throttle opened up voltage drops 1-3 volts.oil inside rubber stator plug[causing short perhaps]? tried taking reading from stator connection wlth multimeter and zilch nothing should i just pull it apart and change stator?i;ve got to change gear shaft anyway [worn splines] and as primary has to come off may as well do both feedback appreciated thanks.
The stator is a coil. It puts out AC voltage. If you checked for DC at the stator you will get nothing. First disconnect plug and check in ohms range should be close to zero pin to pin then check each pin to ground (chassis) should be open circuit. Next check AC volts with engine running I believe should be 24 to 48 volts AC.
Thanks guys, stripped it down today to replace gearshaft, stator looks ok so maybe new regulator although this was replaced within last six months such is life.
