Are you checking for AC or DC voltage?

I replaced my stator and rotor before realizing my voltage regulator was bad. Could that be the problem?

Check to make sure the leads on your multimeter are set up correctly for AC if you are checking at the stator plug. Most multimeters require the leads in a different spot than when checking DC/continuity/OHMS

Neither of mine do.
One has a button to switch between AC and DC and the other you have to set the dial selector to AC scale.

You're absolutely correct, I was thinking of Amps and MilliAmps for some retarded reason

+1 to what Texas said......99% of mulitmeters need the red lead moved to another hole in the unit for AC voltage measurement.

I've had a dozen multimeters, maybe more, counting work. I've never had one that had to have the leads moved for AC v. DC. Not saying there are none, just none of mine.

In any case, verifying the meter is a good place to start. Stick the leads into a regular AC outlet and see what you get.

I never said that.

As mentioned above the only reason to move the red lead is when you're gonna measure mA instead of Amps.
