so you have to remove the compensator to change the stator ?

How in the...did you guys get the compensator nut off. I tried the breaker bar with extension and it still want bulge.

The compensator is secured with a bolt. With the outer primary cover removed (the chromed one), the compensator is the left hand sprocket (smaller one). It has a right hand (normal) thread. The compensator sprocket through a chain drives the larger clutch sprocket located to the right. The clutch is secured with a LEFT-handed nut - in other words to loosen you turn it clockwise (right). It is torqued to 160 or greater ft. lbs and with the breaker bar should come loose fairly easy - providing you're turning it the correct (right) direction.
