I'm sure it's the fact that it is #1 that they are bidding on, and given that they are going to put it up as a showpiece in their living room, not ride it. It pisses me off that someone buys a bike with the purpose of reselling to gouge some idiot. Remember the late 80's/90's when there was an 18 month waiting list but if you were willing to pay $10,000 over MSRP there were indy shops that had new bikes for sale that they per ordered for that purpose.
But it is serial no 1 of 900, what do you think no 2 is worth and if you go down the line you should be able to get no 899 for how much . OH I forgot no 900, the last one , well let's just start the bidding at 40 grand automatically since it would be the last one of it;s kind .
I suppose being #1 in the series does add value if just want it to sit and resell 20 years later, but I buy Bikes to ride and # 900 will ride just as well ...
$50K+ for the guys that are probably bidding on it is more than likely a months salary for them. A while back some posted a video of a Software Guru that had every year & model Harley ever made for the past 30+ years and never even started them.
