Default Lowering a Road Glide?

Hi There,

So....I would really like to Lower our bike, as it seems to sit really High.
I would prefer to get my feet planted firmly on the ground, as opposed to being always on the ***** of my feet and struggling to touch the ground at times.
What do you guys suggest in doing this?
The Dealer told me, that if I put Shorter shocks on her, that it will take way from the way that it handles.
To tell you the truth, I would rather have a bike that sits down Safely on the Ground....and put up with the way that it handles.
The Road Glide would look so much better and be a lot Safer for me, if...it was Lowered down for me.
What do you think?
What is the best way to accomplish this?
I would Love to drop it by at least 2 inches or more.
If I wanted a High sitting Bike, I would have bought a Dirt Bike! lol
Looking forward to your advice and help.

I had the same problem, I went with 11.5 inch Progressive shocks and a new seat. I still wasn't happy, so I installed Road6 lowering blocks as well. Now I'm a happy camper! I have heavy duty springs on the shocks since I mostly ride two up, and the preload on the shocks is about half way up. The ride is stiffer than the stock setup, but for me the trade off was worth it.

PS - love that screen name!

Thanks lol
So.....tell me how you planning on lowering it, by using 11 1/2 inch shocks?
I thought....that the Stock Shocks were 11 inches as it is?
I was thinking about going with 9 or 10 inch shocks and a lower seat, like a Bad lander to get it down to where I was wanting it to be.
How do Lowering Blocks work in conjunction with the Shocks?
Would love to hear a lot more, about what you did and how it actually lowers the Bike?
Thanks again!

Stock shocks on Street Glides and Road Glides are 12 inches, 13 inches on the other baggers. The 11.5 inch Progressive lowered it some, but not enough for me. Watch out for those really short shocks, they have almost no travel and can ride like a hard tail.

I'm assuming you have a Road Glide Custom ??? They are 12" shocks stock , the Ultra are 13" shocks , be careful how much you lower it as you can get fender rub on the tire , the best way to lower it but also the most expensive is the Fat Bagger Inc drop seat lowering kit , it lowers the seat 2"-3" without lowering the bike , but it is about 2K

First two things i suggest are get a good pair of boots and have your local cobler make the heel and sole thicker.
Second send your stock seat to MeanCity Cycle have them lower and narrow your seat.
This is way way more Thrifty than a new low seat .

I had my stock seat lowerd and narroewed buy MCC and memory foam added for comfort. AWSOME Mod looks great very comfy . Total cost INCLUDING Shipping just under $150.
I have road many 300 to 500 mile days in comfort.

I put 11" Bitchin Bagger Drop shocks on my RK , They are stock HD airshocks cut down .
Diffrent spring and oil ,they work great bike actually hanndles better.
There is a stop installed No worries about bottoming out on the fender like lowering blocks.
you could send your stock shocks in to be lowerd or a thrifty pair of 13" take off shocks from ebay.
With theses mods your 3" to 4" lower for just a few hundred dollars.

If your still not low enough your forks can be lowerd ,i bet the first three mods will do the trick getting your feet flat on the ground.

check www.chopperscycle.com , he has the lowering drop seat kits for $1500 but you have to get the side covers painted , his lower it 3 1/2" , go to baggers - drop seat kits

It would really help if we all knew what year and model you are riding. I see you are new to the forum. Why don't you take the time to fill in your signature with a picture and a description of your bike? BTW, are you in Vancouver, WA? I'm in Longview.

Thanks for all the ideas and help.
As far as my bike goes.....it is a 2007 Road Glide.
I am new to this site and I did Up Load some picture for my Profile picture...but for some reason....it was not posted.
May be..... the moderators.....thought that it was a little bit to Sexy or Racy?
But......come on......this is, a Harley site....is it not? lol
I'll try to post another picture or two....and see if they happen to be accepted or not. lol
So.....I think for now, that I will go with a lower seat....a set of 11 inch Shocks and the lowering kit as well.
I am a little Asian girl, and the Stock seat, is kind of over kill for someone, my size!
I am not cheap at all, but....spending $2,000 to lower the seating position....seems a little much, don't ya think? lol
Thanks again for all your help.
I'm off to up date my profile and pictures.
