I need some opinons from you guys I have an 05 Road King I love it but have always had dressers and want to go back to em the dealer says he will givw me between $12,500.00 and $13,00.00 on trade I got it sold to someone for $13,500.00 has 7000 miles is that a good price should I sell it for that I know some dealers have 06 RK's leftover and are selling em for $16000.00 you think itds better to be able to go to the dealer with the cash or trade in and get the tax break, Im looking for eiter 07 FLHT STD, Street Glide or Classid Dresser, come on guys help me out your opinons would be of great help, I only have a day or two before the buyer wants my Road King, Thanks Bill
if you get the same thing in trade as your selling price i would trade it in and take the tax break with no questions asked. unless the buyer is a family or great friend and you want to keep the bike close by
You will not have to pay tax on what the dealer gives you on trade. Make your deal for cash, before you get your price on your trade. Then you will really know what they are giving you for your bike.
If your tax rate is 8% as mine is, then the $13,000 trade is actually more like $14,040. Plus, selling to the dealer would negate any potential of a new buyer reneging at the last minute (or night before as happened to me once). Trade with dealer!

I really don't know about pricing or values, but that's got to be one of the longest single sentences I've ever read

Give the guy a break...after all he was nice enough to put in four comma's. Bet his wife has never had a period either.
Here is MY opinion: Your dealer is going to make a profit on the bike you are buying, whether or not you pay for the purchase 100% cash, or with money and a trade in.
THEN, your dealer is going to make MORE money, when they mark up your trade-in bike $1500 or more and sell it.
I'd sell outright for more money (even it if is only 500 bux). Why cost yourself $500, just to help put more in the dealer's coffers?
Here is MY opinion: I would say you have it sold for $13.5K when you have the cash in your pocket. I think you may be a little early in using the past tense of sell.
If you are going to trade, like '05Hog said, "Make your deal for cash before you get the price on your trade. Then you really know what they are giving you for the bike." No deal unless you're satisfied with the price of the replacement and they give you $13K trade in.
I don'tknow about yourstate but I'm confused about the "taxbreak" guys are talking aboutwithatrade in. I justsold my old bagger privately and bought a new one. In Vermont, I was able to deductthe amount I sold the old one for (with a copy of the bill ofsale) from the price of the new one and paid sales tax on the difference. I wouldn't have gotten anymore of tax break ifIhad traded it in to the dealer. Obviously, each state has its own tax laws, but I would check it out.
