I had a case made for my fob that slides on my belt. The only way I can forget my fob is if I forget to wear pants. I also change the battery in my fob every two years. I also set my pin number to an old phone # so i don't forget it.

Soooooo....Today I get on the bike to run up to the bank, (I hang my coat right near the parking spot for the bike) It was still a bit cool so I wore my sweatshirt....I start it up, back out of the garage and go on my merry way to the bank. I rode about 4 miles. Ran fine...I come out of the bank and it wouldn't start. Duh....I had to bum a ride from the very cute little teller who was nice enough to get me home and back.
I didn't think it would run at all if it gets out of range, but apparently it will! Back to the saddlebag with the fob from now on!
If you leave your fob with the bike it will charge your security system all the time and your fob battery won't last long + if you don't lock your ign. somebody other than you maybe riding your bike!

Bingo! That is why everyone should set a pin. If you cant remember it then put the card in your wallet. This also helps when the battery on the FOB does dead without warning.

That's why I keep my keys secured to my belt. They're always with me....

My fob/key is always in my pocket... but I kinda like the idea from the person on this thread who has a little fob case on his belt.

I did get stranded once in a gas station when the battery died... had to learn the whole security bypass procedure right there with the alarm going off, lol, pretty embarrassing. I also carry spare batteries now in the saddlebag.

If the dealer gave you the fob with the pin already set remember that they and most likely everyone that works there has access to your pin.

Everybody needs a clear understanding of this, and practice it from time to time.
May I recommend you choose a PIN that is easy to remember, something you are familiar with (Parents birthday?) and write it down.
And by all means, change it from the factory setting ASAP! Until you do this, persons familiar with the HD Security systems can hop on, code it, and ride away in a minute or less.
With a 'Droid smartphone, with the V-Twin App, you can enter your code as a note or phone number somewhere and you'll be ready.
My vehicles use keyless fobs, and I like not having to use a key.
But, you still gotta be careful!

Drive for a week without your FOB and only use your security override (PIN #). If in the future you forget your FOB or your FOB batteries die, it won't be a problem. SJ Ron

if you read the manual, it tells you to turn the ign on-off-on.... i found that this isn't necessary. just turn the ign on, and immediately hit both turn signals at the same time. puts you right into input mode. left turn signal cycles the digits, right turn signal is the enter button....

easy folks.

also, its a lot easier to input the code than it is to push your bike when/if you find yourself parked in an area where there is some interference and your alarm isn't 'reading' the fob.
