I have the oppurtunity to purchase a brand new 2012 Road King Classic at about a $1600 discount over a 2013 model. Checking Kelly Blue Book in 5 years time the 2012 will be worth $1700 less than the 2013 model.
Which one would you buy? Any and all suggestions or comments are appreciated.
Get the one that puts the smile on your face....if I bought bikes or cars based on resale I'd never buy another new vehicle. I buy them for me...damn the resale....
Color plays more of a factor in my purchase than resale...but that's just me.

Exactly! Do what makes you happy. Who knows, in 5 years you may decide not to get rid of it anyway. Hell if I had been totally logical about finances last December I wouldn't have my 12 Ultra Classic. That purchase was more from the heart than the brain.... although the brain was there just enough so I knew I wasn't going broke
Basically, when you drive the 2012 off the lot it'll already be a year old. But like everyone else said, its more about what you want and what works for you. For me, saving money is always a good thing!
I had a 2013 on order and ended up buying a 2012 on the floor for the exact same price I was paying for the '13. The '12 was in a prettier color. It did have $2k in extra options over the one I ordered as well.
I worried about resale, Then decided to go what what I liked bettter.
I can tell you that I get over $3k off of msrp on my 2012 Ultra.... so you might call around and see if someone can make an even better deal.
Contrary to what some not so bright bulbs think a motorcycle is not an investment unless it's made of a precious metal, like gold or unobtanium.
An investment is something purchased that is supposed to go up in value. A motorcycle never will. Not unless it's a 0 mile panhead that was built and hidden from the light of day since finished. There are some exceptions however this isn't one of them.
