Default chopped tourpack backrest

Anyone know if a wraparound backrest from a king tourpack can be installed on a chopped tourpack?

You will have to drill new holes for the king backrest mounts but it will fit. Tops are the same on the king and chopped. Looks kind of bulky and defeats the purpose of using the chopped tour pac IMHO.

I did that on my '10 FLTRX. Used the Mustang extended backrest mounted to chopped tour pak. Looked great and worked perfectly.

If you are ordering the chopped TP from the motor co. you can have them drill for the king backrest. In my opinion the chopped backrest is plenty comfortable. I just had to add a pad for lower back support. Made one from an old backrest pad. Works great.

Why would you want to?
They look lame and obtrusive, IMHO.

Most guys like/prefer the clean look of the non wrap-around arm rests.

The chopped tour pak is the best looking one of the 3 tour paks.
Not too big and not too small like the king or the razor.
Don't ugly it up.
Then again, it's your ride.

In short, trying to keep the ol lady happy. Just bought a brand new SG, but kept my night train... At this point with the detachable backrest on the big bike she's more comfortable on the softail. I am too. We're bunched up a bit on the new bike and more than anything, I'm trying to move her back as much as I can. The backrest (and the bike...) is like 2 weeks old and its already crossed my mind to heat it and bend the uprights back some. It would ruin the chrome, but that f'er sticks STRAIGHT up, and everything's installed properly. The extra storage is gonna be awesome, but I can also move it back. Thinking chopped tourpack because I'm still on the fence, but I'm 95% sure about giving up a little storage for a better overall line. I haven't seen any pictures of that kind of backrest on a chopped pack yet though... Anyone have some??

We rode from PA down to Delmarva/OC bikefest last week and even after springing for a Corbin Touring seat, it didn't really change the seating position, just alot better support. My dumbass took the bar off to cruise around town, and didn't have it when I tried out the seat! EEEDIOT!

As for the backrest, going for comfort all the way. We cover alot of miles, sometimes alot at once (1000 mile days a few times a year), and both of us kind of "lounge" after awile, just to move around... that kind of backrest will allow her to do that in more positions.

-PS if anyone is selling a TP for a reasonable price that isn't falling apart let me know, chopped or king. Prefer HD ones, and already painted. Midnight Pearl would be matching, but vivid black is awesome. For the right price, I don't care if its pink, as long as its painted, so I can finish out this season with it, and paint it over winter. Racks, lights (on the side only), antenna's, speakers, all OK. Just don't want the taillights that go in the back of the pack.

Yep, you're right on more room with a softail than a SG.
That's what is currently keeping me from getting my own individual back rest.
I wouldn't be giving my wife any room then.
We are close enough now, but with a back rest for me, I would be crowding her and making her ride uncomfortable.

If you want to make the tour pak more comfy, get a tour pak relocator, after you've gotten the tour pak, and I have heard of folks bending the passenger back rest back an inch or so.

Pretty sure Ive decided on a chopped tourpack with corbin armrest backpad. Even though it's lower. I did some reasearch and got some measurements, visual marks, etc. from pictures just like yours lions. Neither one of us are short, but the way she sits with her arms most of the time, which is basically at her sides, the chopped should put the armrests right about where she needs'em. Still have options to 'slouch' a little too. Seems to me the only downside is the loss of a little storage. But, that's what a rack is for. Put stuff that can get wet up there. Takin bike in for the free 1000K service this morning and going to inquire and see what I can come up with. Hoping I can get a pack without any holes drilled, or maybe perhaps with the correct holes drilled for the king backrest.

They don't use an actual pad under the backrest on the tourpack bottom, correct?

I don't like saying it but this sounds like one of those cases where an Ultra might have fit the bill better than the SG. Sounds like you two do some major touring. Not that the SG can't handle that with some additions. But the Ultra would have been better OOTB.

Have you changed out the passenger pegs on the SG for something a little more comfortable??? Maybe something adjustable that will allow your wife to stretch out some more.

And has she sat on a bike with the tour pak with wrap-around backrest. I have had a few and my wife really does not like them. She says they make her feel cramped and restricted. And no she is not a big girl. She is actually tiny. LOL
