Besides the obvious protection they provide against the wind noise, the plugs actually transfer the bass better from my headset. Plus I am actually able to hear other sounds that are not audible when not wearing the plugs.
Hey young guys...you best heed our warning...don't ruin your hearing like some of us have done. Use the nice cheap foam plugs. They do a great job, are reusable, and can be picked-up anywhere. Ringing in the ears is NOT cool. Ask me how I know.
I started wearing them so I wouldn't hear all the clicking, clacking, and thrashing of my engine. If I forget to put them in, I start thinking I'm going to need a tow truck any minute.
On the freeways I think I hear better with the ear plugs. By better I mean that without the wind noise, I can hear changes in all of the other sounds out there. It's easier to hear another bike, car or semi coming up. I can also hear all of the voices in my head better too.
