Default Commander IIs - Where Were Yours Made?

In another thread we have been discussing Commander II tires. Several have stated they are getting excellent mileage and their tires have excellent wet and dry traction which is exactly opposit my experience. One post on the other thread states his tires were made in Spain, mine were made in Thailand. I have had this FLHTCI for almost 10 years and always purchased the standard 402's for tire replacement. This summer I purchased a set of Commander II's expecting to get an equal to or better than tire. What I have after almost 2k miles is a set of tires I am afraid to take corners on. The tires simply do not stick to the road the same as my 402's did. I have almost 50k miles on this bike, I am an agressive rider, and I can't ride it like I stole it anymore. Is this only with Made in Thailand Commander II's? Where were yours made?

goodness i was fairly set on these tires for my next purchase too..
Like you i ride fairly aggressive at times, the stock dunlops did very well for me, but i went with Avon Cobras for a change ,,aren't lasting nearly as long and didn't make any drastic changes in the corners..Was thinking of the Michelin II 's but have been reading mixed reviews too.. ugh i hate the internet lol..
if it aint broke don't fix it?

I have run avons, 880's and now commanders and the commanders are without a doubt a better riding, just as sticky in wet or dry tire than the others. Stock tires are a joke! Anyone who thinks different is just fooling themselves. In my opinion i dont care where there made....they rock!!

I have over a quarter million miles riding under my belt, know how to ride and how my 10 years prior experience changed in 1 day for this bike whan I replaced my Dunlops for the Commander II's. Yes I understand some have good results with them. I also understand some are made in Spain, mine were made in Thailand. Mine are hard slick and slip when riding over stripes in the road. Taking a curve 1 mile from my shop, 1 I have taken many times on several bikes, I found myself off the road and up in the grass when I had to lean up and couldn't take the corner because the bike was sliding out from under me. When I turn into an interstate ramp and cross a line the bike will slip a little when I cross the painted lines. Maybe your Commanders are better than the Avons you ran before, I dont know as I havnet ran an Avon tire for 30 years and those were straight rib front tires. My point is, some like the Commander II's and I don't, mine were made in Thailand. Is it p[ossible the manufacturing location and the region the rubber was compound has an effect on stick.

I don't and won't run them. Knowing i can get an American made tire. But. I know the 880 made in germany is better than the 880 made in brazil. My buddy runs them.

To answer you question, You're correct in assuming there is a difference in where it's made. Some people will swear by their purchase no matter what. And others only repeat what they read with no real knowledge. Go with your gut.

I believe your assessment. Try the Dunlop E3 next. I have 17k on mine. Will hit 20k plus easy.
