Default Trip meter going hay wire

Just a quick question. I bought a 05 RKC this summer. Loving it so far, but one thing is bothering me. When I bought it I set one if the trip meter A and intended on leaving it run. The other trip B I use on trips. Well one day after work I happened to notice them both zeroed out. Kind of got me, and I was wondering if someone messed with me. Well yesterday I put a new trickle charger harness on and after I finished it appears that the trip meters are back to the mileage numbers from when I bought it. My thoughts are that I have something in my odometer screwed up. I am not bad with a wrench or with electrical, just wondering if anyone has had this same experience. It has 7600 miles on it and looks like brand new with tons of chrome. The previous owner took great care of it.

Try replacing the trip meter switch. Probably your issue. Pn 67854-98 under $20

Does the switch have a memory module in it? I still need to pick up the service manual for it. This happened over about a week and a few hundred miles. This was the weird part that after the week or so and I disconnect the battery for a few minutes it went back to the original numbers. I would have honestly expected it to zero out from the disconnect. Not a huge issue but winter is on us here in AK so I can tinker and not miss the riding time here very soon.
