Harmon-Kardon Radio Software Upgrade...
- The instructions say to download as a music file. Should we import these into iTunes or change the extension to mp3 file or the like?
- Instructions say to burn at a 8x or slower speed. All my computers burn at 10x or faster. Nothing in my house is that slow.
There has to be a trick or step we're not understanding.
No, you don't need to do that.
Just download the updater files to your hard drive. The two files download as a ".zip" archive, so they have to be de-compressed before burning.
On the Mac running OS X, you should be able to "un-zip" the file by double-clicking on it in the Finder.
I'm not sure how to un-zip on the Windows side of things.
The two files in the zip archive (after UN-archiving) are:
HD_TMS320_8_19_0.upg
st10_tms320_bootloader_8_25_0.bin
I had some trouble finding the right software (on the Mac) to create a good CD (as described in my original post). I -think- this may be due to the ".upg" file type -- perhaps the Mac OS (and an older version of Toast) could not "digest" that file type when trying to verify the CD after burning it.
You will know that you have "a bad burn" on the CD if you put it into the HK radio and it just reports "verifying image" and does nothing further.
(I tried to post an ".iso" file of the upgrade CD that worked for me here on HDForums, but the file attachment system would not accept the file due to size limitations.)
"- Instructions say to burn at a 8x or slower speed. All my computers burn at 10x or faster. Nothing in my house is that slow."
10x burn speed worked fine for me.
st10_tms320_bootloader_8_25_0.bin
These two files are what I have on the disc. Is this correct or do I have to decompress them? If not, I'm not doing something else right. I even tried another disc.

if you hit the "quote" button in the bottom right hand corner of their post,
scroll to the end, and begin your text after the last
in their post, it will duplicate their post for you.
You can also edit the text out of their post that you don't want to carry over.
Just leave the
characters start and finish and you are golden...
The radio doesn't like the hybrid format. If you try to use it, the radio never gets past verifying image.
I found a third party disc burner that can burn a pure format ISO 9660, and it worked fine. I used Disco which lets you burn a few disks before you have to pay for it. I am certain that there are other CD burners that will work fine, just make certain the resulting disk is pure ISO 9660.
