you might also want to check the fuse for that cigarette lighter. Also it only "works" with the Ignition ON or in the Accessory position.

Thank you to all that chimed in here. I bit the bullet tonight and instead of watching The Guardian with my wife I spent the evening in the garage installing the power plug. It was a little strange and not cool taking a drill bit to the right side cover but the dead is done. Here are the final pictures. On the second picture I tried to show the accessory plug and how I routed the wires in case someone else wants to try this. It's the wire going under the negative post of the battery.

One thing I didn't know is the plug doesn't become hot until you flip the ACC switch on the faring. Since my air compressor didn't have a switch this worked perfect for me. Now I have a 12 volt air compressor to carry with me on trips.

Looking good.
Just one question, to remove the cover completely now you need to remove the seat, to unplug it from the bike?(or just unplug the wires from the back of the accessory plug)

If that the case, you may want to add a...........

Switched Circuit Adapter Harness

This harness allows two accessories to be connected to the switched accessory circuit featured on '94-later Touring models. You then may switch two accessories on or off simultaneously as required.

70264-94A

Fits '94-later Touring models.

MSRP US $14.95
All that really says is it is a One into Two adapter for that plug under the seat. That way you could run the one plug outside the frame and under the side cover and still retain one open plug for further use.
That way, when removing the side cover you just unplug the plug, and don't end up with loose wires hanging, or removing the seat.

Easy one to do:
Go to WalMart or your local auto parts, buy an powerpoint, and a "Z" bracket.

Mount powerpoint in "Z" bracket, mount to lid using one of the bolts holding on your lugage rack, and run wires to battery using a fuse in both sides.

The reasonI say both side is because you have a detachable TP and will be adding a disconnect plug in lines to the battery. You should get away with this mod for about $30.

BirchWhite,
I would be a bit leary about that setup. According to the text, it plugs into the existing harness in the tourpak. Thatprobably means it plugs into your light circuit, so it may cause the same problems with the extra draw, that LED lights do with underdraw with the newer electronic circuits on the bike.
Thats whyI intialy suggested going directly to your baterry, with a fused circuit.

Who has installed the additional power plug on an Ultra? I just bought one from my local Harley dealer and the instructions seem straight forward. It makes me nervous that I will be drilling a 7/8 inch hole in the right side engine cover. Has anyone done this mod and if so do you have a picture of it? I would like to make sure I’m aligning the template up correctly before I start drilling.

It also calls for the plug to be plugged in to the accessory plug located under the seat by the battery. It also appears there is an accessory plug located behind the right side engine cover. My manual doesn’t show that plug behind the engine cover only the one under the seat. Can I use that plug? It sure would be more convenient.
I chose to mount mine in the right side of the fairing ... similar to the cig lighter. I also have one hooked up to the accesory plug under the seat that I just leave behind the side cover. I can use it if I need it. You can change the way the accesory plug activates by changing the little pins in the plug (i.e. comes on with acc switch, hot all the time etc.). The instructions that came with the outlet from Harley explained this.

Mine is a hybrid- I used the Harley wiring harness that came with the kit, plugged it to the ACC port, added a few inches of wires thenran the wiresunder the dashpanel, all the way underneath the triple tree-onto the left lower side of the handlebar. I used a diff 12 volt outlet I bought from autozone(marine grade) water resistant housing and mounted that on the handlebar using a couple heavy duty zipties, then installed the Harley rubber cover from the kit.(so I still have an outlet even when I take the fairing off.)
