I have the light come on when I start it, never counted how many seconds, but 8 sounds about right.

Also I have heard of problems with the light staying on with when running the Kuryakyn Run Turn Brake controller. They sell a different "security compatible" voltage regulator for those that have the light come on and stay on. It doesn't affect anything, but the light can annoy some, so that is their fix.

To answer your question about Security, when the computer of our bikes are turned on it performs a system check each time so when we see these lights come on the computer is checking ALL when it is turned on.
The tack and speedometer needles do not do a full sweep, they remain motionless.
Do not see PSSPt.
Do not get "diag".

All I get is codes d01clr, d02clr, d03clr.....d10clr.

Then "PPU"

Then that number mentioned above, which according to the dealer is the ECM number.

When I switch the ignition ON, the engine light and security light come ON. Then they both go out, and after that if I hit the start the bike, the security light comes back on again for about 8 seconds, then sometimes goes out.

Last week this was not happening after staring, but, then after I disconnected the battery and/or hooked it up to the battery tender, the security light started coming on after the bike is started.

Sometimes it stays on, other times it goes out after 8 seconds. I thought the FOB battery was going bad, so I replaced it with a new battery, same thing.

I tried the "rest" method, i.e. hold the reset button in for longer that 5 seconds until I see Clear....and nothing happend. So presumably I have no codes to clear.

Even when my FOB battery was low or dead the light has always acted the same.
This is how it was last week, now, I have the light that comes on AFTER I start the bike. sometimes the security light goes out after 8 seconds, sometimes it just stays on.

Could a bad voltage regulator cause this, too high a volt output. I'm seeing about 14.5 Volts on the guage, is this too high ?

Yes, the freeking red light, warning me of an eminent breakdown due to an unknown security issue in the middle of nowhere is concerning and irritating the crap out of me. Not knowing if it will re-start after gassing up, for example.

Had the bike back at the dealership today, they hooked the ECM up to their diagnostic machine to pull the codes. All the codes are not available via the speedometer on a 2003.

Turns out there was a code, something about the accelorometer, tilt indicator and TSSM (Turn Signal Security Module) going bad.

Just ride it like that, and ignore the light they said.
Or, I could get a new TSSM,
Or eliminate the security system and just get a TSM.

Are your turn signals not cancelling? I would think the bank angle sensor not working would cause that.

I just put LEDS in my front and rear lights on my 2011 SG. This weekend I noticed the red key light would randomly come on. No load equalizer installed. Are the 2 things related?

I have the Custom Dynamics LED turn signals and load equalizer. In the instructions it states that the load equalizer balances the load or draw of the LED lights due to a lower amperage draw of the LED's vs. incandescent bulbs. The load equalizer slows the blink rate of the lights to the flasher's blink rate (slower). It also serves the purpose of eliminating trouble codes sent to your ECM if you are running with no load equalizer. I suppose it is possible.
