One more little tidbit of information.... Unless Chinese cows are better than American cows, I'm betting the new HD jackets probably won't be around 30 years from now either. Now, I don't know for a fact that the HD jackets are made in China but if they aren't, they are about the only aftermarket HD part or clothing article that isn't. Just sayin.
I'm not much for the heavy leather jackets. I have a First Gear by Hein Gericke. It's light weight, supple leather. Came with a good quilted liner that I still have, but replaced with a Gerbing liner years ago. The jacket has vents front, back, & on the sleeves. It can be worn in any weather, vented to control the temp, & with the heated liner is as good as it gets for cold. I doubt you can even buy that jacket now, but I'd look for something similar. Leather only blocks the wind, warmth is provided by the liner or heated liner. Make one purchase serve as many uses as possible.
About 6 years ago I picked up a Meinhardt leather jacket that came with a one-day Harley rental that Lynnwood HD donated to my kid's school auction. Jacket still looks great and has a nice faded patina to it. Made in the USA with big YKK zippers that are still going strong. The only issue I had is one snap popped off. I am glad I won the auction because after a few more rentals, I ended up buying.
