Had a Hein Gericke Jacket i bought in Germany 26 years ago. Just awesome piece of leather clothing. It don't fit anymore, since it shrunk on me. Was looking to buy another but they don't make em like that anymore. Looked at Harley jackets, which fit ok, but just couldn't get myself to buy one since they are made in China.
I did end up buying one from Foxcreek Leathers and am completely happy with it. Damn good leather and damn good quality. Made in the USA, for less then the Communist Chinese made, HD Jackets.
One more little tidbit of information.... Unless Chinese cows are better than American cows, I'm betting the new HD jackets probably won't be around 30 years from now either. Now, I don't know for a fact that the HD jackets are made in China but if they aren't, they are about the only aftermarket HD part or clothing article that isn't. Just sayin.
I got a huge kick out of the Made in China tag. I looked at the price tag and saw them going for anywhere from $450-$600. For a Chinese made jacket that says Harley Davidson? No way, soinrry, can't do it. It's laughable IMO
A friend of mine just got a jacket from leatherup.com. I was impressed with the weight and the construction. Looks like a real nice coat. Hasn't been worn yet and won't fit me so I won't be able to speak for the quality while riding. Just saying it looks and feels like a quality jacket. Even has armor near the joints.
I have a dealer account at leatherup.com, got it so I could place a bulk order for myself and several friends. Their stuff is damn good, going on three years with one of the jackets and chaps....
I wear a Powertrip textile jacket year round. I originally bought it for spring/warmer weather riding, and found that It is good year round, and way more comfortable then leather. I gives me just as much wind/cold protection as my leather. Powertrip jackets are very adjustable, and I haven't found a better fitting jacket yet.
On the quality end, the main jacket has held up well (10 years) but I do have to say I had some issues with the zippers, all of them (sleeves, and main zipper). I like the fit so much, that I chose to pay a local seamstress to put new heavy duty zippers in it, rather than replacing it.
I got a First Classic at a local biker leather shop (AM Leather in Romulus, MI). This jacket weighs 20-30lbs, but has a removable liner and armor in the elbows and shoulders. Even has a built in back belt. Very well made.
I got my vest from ronsmart.com they occasionally have sales on leathers. Got my vest on sale last year end of season for $30.
WOW!!!!! I sure hope someone from the mother company looks at this post and takes notice. Stay Away From Harleys CHINESE MADE CRAP seems to be the opinion of everybody!! they should be VERY ashamed !!! now at leather up and ebay i have seen some cheap leather jackets that say Buffalo leather, but i was afraid it was not Real Buffalo and some synthetic crap like pleather(great for a strippers skirt... Bad to have a crash in!!!) So did i read right that it is real leather and good quality???
Hello there
If you contact Fox Creek they will guide you through the fitment of the jackets etc. Look at the testimonials with regard to fitment you will see that they no how to size the jackets.
Good luck tbone
+1 on the Fox Creek. My wife and I rode to their store last weekend. Wife bought a very nice leather jacket. Sales lady (Rachel) was very helpful and took a lot of time with sizing and fit questions. Very good quality, life time warranty, made in USA.
