The only reason I would buy a new bike is for ABS. Oh, and a free T shirt.

Last December I traded in my '10 EG Classic for a '12 Ultra Classic. One of the deciding factors in doing so was to get ABS, which my '10 didn't have. The ABS has only engaged once since I've had it but its made me a believer.

No ABS would be a deal breaker for me. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. ABS along with proper braking technique will not only stop you sooner but it will be a controlled stop as well.

Bummer, you're going to have to get a CVO with ABS. Life is tough

ABS saved me on my 09 Ultra a week after I bought it...all that extra weight stops a lot slower than my FXDWG did, a stupid driver stopping in a merge lane with no traffic around let me try it out sooner than I wanted!

True that! I'm long in the tooth and it will be my last bike but what an incredible way to end my riding career!

I have been riding for 20+ years and have rode with and without ABS. I know how to stop and keep control with and without it. Thought about not getting ABS and had sold myself on the idea. But the more I thought about it the more I kept thinking about the one time I may need it and don't have it. I unsold myself on the idea of going without ABS. May never need it. I hope I and every one of my fellow riders out there never does. But it is a sad fact of life that we are invisible.

And I just learned something new in this thread. I thought the Ultra Classic started coming standard with ABS and security a few years ago like the Limited and the RG Ultra.

i have abs on my new 213 limited. thankfully, i havent engaged it yet. didn't have it on my 2010 ultra and wasn't a deciding factor. i've gotten in a habbit of brake and release, even in a panic stop. mostly using the front brake. its been to the point that i've chirped the front tire. glad i have the abs but old learning habits are hard to break. hope i never have to try it out. btw, cvo is way cool. i almost pulled the trigger on one also as this will probably be my last also. i opted for the limited instead.

I wouldn't buy a bike without ABS.
