Engine Idle Question
I'm sure this has been talked about many time, but since I'm new to the forum I thought I would ask.
The previous owner told me the idle on my stock 88ci bike should be above 900 rmp's, or the oil pump won't work fast enough and starve the engine. He had the idle at 1100, which IMO was way to fast. I moved it down between 700-800 and it sounds good.
Anyone know if it will cause oiling issues being so low?
Thanks,

here;'s the con:
oil pressure and volume are dependent on rpms.
oil is part of the cooling system, not only does oil move through the hottest parts of the motor and carry away heat to be dispersed to the air, but the oil is sprayed at the undersides of the pistons.
ALL of the rotating motor parts are held by bearings or bushings- there is meant to be a thin film of oil in there for all these parts to float on.
the "traditional" harley sound was a product of a completely different motor design, which although appearing much the same has almost nothing in common with the twin cam

Thanks. I think that I'll turn it up a bit to 900.
Does anyone know where a completely stock (new) bike idles at?

I'd be looking for an idle more like 1000 or the 1100 the previous owner used.
and if you go in for emissions, set the idle even higher, better volumetric efficiency- lower tailpipe emissions. 1350 or so

Not sure the difference between an evo and twinkie is. A twinkie is what I call my wifes..... well you know
It's a 2004 EG stock with almost 5000 miles on it. I picked it up a few weeks ago. The only mod that I have done so far is a new stereo system.
