Default Stereo speakers, what would you do

So I have installed the removable tour pak kit on my Ultra and find myself riding with it off unless wifey is onboard. I have also installed a nice Sony radio w/Fosgate amp and speakers but am only using two of them when I remove the tour pak.
So I was thinking of removing the speaker boxes from the tour pak, BTW any cool ideas to fill the bolt holes when I do this ? I want to either run saddlebag speakers or lower fairing speakers which one would you choose. I already know I will buy another set of Fosgates in either 6.5 or 6x9 if I do this so that part I have already decided.
Any thoughts from those that have had both set ups would be helpful.

Removing the boxes may leave you with marks where the boxes have "rubbed" against the Tour-Pak and chaffed the paint, they may rub out ... however if they haven't you might consider some ( I'm presuming your bike is black, aren't all HD's? ) plastic plugs available at most hardware stores or some chrome/stainless button head bolts ... this way you'd be able to re-install the speaker boxes in the event you needed to ... just my .02 cents worth ... Good Luck Brother.

I've been thinking of adding more speakers to my ride, and I'm comparing saddlebag lids to lower fairing also. From what I've read and heard the lower fairing location is better for the rider, the saddlebag lids are better for the passenger. Since costs are about equal I'm leaning towards the lower fairing myself, good luck!

I added the lowers

Primarily because I ride solo as the wife rides he own

by going with lowers - I hear the music, clearly even at speeds on the highway (with the shor windshield)

the bag speakers are great if you have a passenger, but are useless on the highway for solo riding

Have the removable QD TP which is off generally all summer unless going for more than 4/5 days away.

I have the speakers in the lower fairings and the sound is great. Lose too much space installing speakers in the bags. And with the TP removed you would be even further limited for packing space.

I agree, I would think if you use your saddlebags for carrying stuff, then you'd lose wanted space.

Also, just my opinion here, but if you're doing it for you, then the lowers would probably be better. If you're doing it for Mama, then the saddlebags. I would imagine that going down the road, the sound from the saddlebags would be blown behind you; while the sound from the lowers has to blow by you.

You need more options on the poll. Keep speakers on the Tour Pak.

I have removed the speaker switch wires and put the four speaker wires in one harness along the right (throttle) side. The Tour Pak light harness plug is on the other side. (Antennas are "Hidden" in the fairing)

Next I used the Boom!™ Audio Music and Intercom Kit (77108-09A) to keep the passenger intercom and switches, with or without the Tour Pak. But kept the Rider intercom plug in the Tank Dash. It looks so much cleaner than the double sided tape used with the Kit.

This way when I use the Tour Pak, I still have the speakers. But when the Tour Pak is removed, I tuck the plug under the side of the seat and have the clean look.

I also installed a Hawg Wired amp for the front speakers. This way I have no problem hearing them at speed.

Ultra89rider,
Thanks for the ideas but I have replaced my stereo with a sony unit so I now longer have the intercom option, which i have since replaced with Sena smh5 units.

The more I look into this it doesn't make sense to remove the rear speakers since they are 5.25 and the lower fairings units are 6.5. I don't really need the extra speakers but I think they are cool and mods are what bikes are all about to me.
I think I may still add lower speakers since I never use the glove boxes anyway now I just need to figure out how to wire the new ones into the system. I looked at Rockford website and am confused on which way to wire them according to the pictures anybody help me out by looking at the pics attached ?

TimmyB

Are you running the PBR300X4 amp ? If so are the wires run like either of the pics I posted above?
