You can rent a very nice beach house 1 block from the shoreline cheap this time of season. Only the water is cold ! Awful Arthur's has excellent fresh steamed shrimp !
Have a house up near Corolla, went to bike week in April and bike fest last month, love going down there, nice ride down rt 17, looking forward to next years bike week, outer banks is one of the nicest beach areas on the east coast and is a nice long ride down the entire outer banks, probably over 3 hours one way.
Just wanted to update on the trip. Stayed at the Cavalier in Kill Devil Hills at the recommendation of Metfancowboy (nice avatar by the way). Nice place and certainly cheap enough at $44 per night. Older place but just what I was looking for and great beach access.
Ate at both Awful Arthur's and Kill Devil Grill...both excellent. Bartender at Awful Arthurs is a biker, although he rides a Suzuki Boulevard. He came outside to see my bike when I left, and when I fired it up for him with that cam and V&H Monster Ovals rumbling, I don't think he's as fond of that Boulevard anymore.
Kill Devil Grill is another great place and I ate in the older section that looks like an ol time cafe. Awesome food and the barmaid wasn't too shabby either! If anyone is looking for a breakfast place, the Stack 'em High Pancakes on Atlantic can't be beat.
Didn't make it to Ocracoke, but did ride down to Hatteras. The ride back was into the sunset, and the views from the bridges was spectacular. Saw tons of folks out fishing, so this must be the premo time of year for that. I thought about pitching a tent at a campground and have plenty of gear since I backpack in the NC mountains pretty often, but decided to get a room instead.
All in all a great trip...temps were just right, motel price was great...food was awesome, and got the hell outta dodge before the hurricane. Can't thank ya'all enough for the help! I'll be back here again!
