I've been reading the forums for a couple years and looking to trade my sportster 48. Two bikes i've been deciding on are a 2007 Street Glide 18,000 miles for $16,995. The other is a 2010 Electra glide C 9,500 miles for $15,955. I love the look of the street glide, but in a price and miles view the electra glide seems more logical. Also figuring I can put lower shocks on and shorter windshield for the electra. I just would like to know everyone's input seeing as all of you have had much quality time with these rides.
Between the two though, if they were identical mechanically, I'd probably go with the EG. Lower miles, cheaper, and built on the newer FL frame. Like you said, if you really want a street glide look you can always take the tour pack off and lower the rear a little. Seems like a screaming deal on the EG.
I have rode both and would want to lower the electra glide, plus shorter windshield. Both bikes ride great and also have full record binders for the original owners. I am leaning towards the electra glide though. How hard is it to take the tour pack off and hardbag guards? My only other option is to buy a new street glide for 20,000, but the money I saved buying used seems like it could go to good use.
Go with the E-glide. Your going to want a tour pac for traveling or even just putting helmuts & stuff. I got a 2009 standard and added the tour pak thinking I'd only want it for trips; however I rarely take it off.
Fewer miles, less coin and the new frame as previously stated are a plus.
$16,995 is way too much money for a 07 SG, if you need to have the SG a new one is a much better deal. As far as removing the tour pak & SB rails all you have to do is get SG frame rail covers & SB mounts, you should be able to find them on ebay or here on the classified.
I bought my 04 for $11k thinking that I would take the trunk off for the Street glide look. But the longer I ride it with the trunk, the more I don't want to go street glide style.
I think I will wait and see what deals come around in the next month. I am really leaning towards the Electra glide, but if the new street glide has a sale I'll go for that.
