A little off topic of the stock replacement Dakota Digital gages but I have an older 1989 dresser that Dakota Digital does not make a replacement gage for the stock instrument cluster used in that year. I made up a custom backing plate, had it engraved, chromed, then mounted a Dakota Digital MCV-7100 information center to it. Had to splice into the wiring harness to get it operational. I love the Dakota Digital and made the bike a one of a kind. It's been on for several years and works flawless.
I've had my blue gauges in less than a year now and already my oil pressure gauge has two of the LED lines out, one on each number. I haven't looked into the warranty but wasn't happy at all that expensive gauges like this haven't even lasted a year before starting to fail. I only use four gauges as I have tweeters installed in the lower holes so I plan to remove the oil pressure and finally get around to installing the oil temp gauge.
It embarrassing having this gauge not working because they draw attention, and the first thing they ask is why that gauge doesn't work and the next is "how much did you pay for those?"
Well that certainly sucks. I am big on reading reviews before i buy anything and the reviews were good. As you learn more about the repair or replacement I for one would like to see an update.
Put a set of red ones in the wife's 13 street glide and love them. Been in for 2 full seasons with no problems. Thinking about getting a set for my 04 ultra.
I had the Dakotas on my RK. They looked awesome and were pretty readable during the day. I plan on getting some for my RG. Direct Cycle sales them for a good price...
My eyesight is not what it use to be. I dont do bi-focals or progressive and wear only mono vision. The stock gauges were impossible to read. Dakota.........what a difference you have made. I luv em and i can certainly see them.
Not sure what caused this or what cured this. But 400 miles into my first trip the gauge went black for the next 200 miles. We figured that it as a fuse. We started taking the fuses out for inspection and not sure when it happened but the gauges started to work again and have been perfect for the last 300 miles. In talking with Dakota i was reminded that the warranty was for two years.
I love my Dakota dash. Retired and riding long distances. 51,000 miles on a 14 Limited. You can calibrate the speed which mine was 4% fast now it is right on. The instructions told how to set the odometer.
I talked to Dakota and I can install on a new bike but would have to send to them to set miles as you can only change it once yourself.
My question is what will the original odometer do when I install it back on bike. Will the ECM read miles and change. Someone told me they can always tell total miles from ECM in shop.
I am not trying to lie about total miles. Someone would find out anyway. Selling a bike with 1600 miles on odometer when it has 51,000 does not seem right
Oil temp question? I have a friend that has these gauges, and he's kinda confused about the oil temp gauge , he says it goes to 235 and then it starts flashing, anybody have run to this issue or has a fix for this?
