Just one knuckleheads' preference: Apes and windshields just don't mix. Kind of counter-culture to each other.
Your bike and your likes though.

I think this may have been true at one point... But as more peopleswitch to Apes andrealize how comfortable they are, We also realize we don't wanna give up our comfort of the windshield either. For me at 6'2" the Apes let me feel like I'm sitting IN my bike not so much as ON it. I have no problems with my windshield at all... My bars are pushed up as far as they will go, and for me its a perfect fit. I did try a couple of different brands, and settled with Cyclesmiths, cause they have less pullback than the Wild1's, which allowed me to push them forward a bit and not feel cramped.. JMHO...
I have a 96 Road King with the same colors <Green/Black>. I too am in the process of going from stock RK bars to 16" apes. Do you know what cables you are going to go with(ie. +6", +8")? Please let me know what you go with and post pictures once you are done.
Bandit at bikernet.com did a series of articles modifying a 2003 King. One of the chapters involved installing 18" apes with internal wiring, and another modifying a windshield to work with the apes. It's all in his King Report.
BTW, I think apes on a king look sweet. Post some pics when you're done.
I found that the other day and printed it out to use when I do my install. That is the windshield mod I was wondering if I would need.
