Default heated grips installed - wired outside the bar?

I had a dealer install a set of the Slipstream Collection heated grips; part number 56100027. The tech ran the left side wire out the bottom of the grip next to the switch housing and around the back of the switch housing. I don't have a copy of the directions but it seems like they should have been ran inside the bars. I don't like it one bit. I paid two hours of labor because I keep reading what a PITA this job can be and since it was going in for a bunch of other stuff (40k, rear tire install, brake fluid flush...) I figured I'd bit the bullet and have it done right. The dealer is about 2 hours from me (I like them a lot; usually do a good job) so I couldn't just run back. I did talk to service writer that helped me when he called me to follow up. I sent him the photos and my thoughts; I'm waiting to hear back. Until then

Does this seem correct to you? A lot of money for something that seems like sloppy work.

That is how the directions show for those grips to be done

Looks to me like you have stock bars? If you have stock bars then yes, the wires should be external. Just as all your other handlebar control wires are external. As far as being external it looks like they did a good job.

If an internal job was being done it would cost a lot more.

That's about as wrong as two boys fucn. Those wires should be inside, tech just tried to be lazy and got caught. The only possible miscommunication could have been two hrs labor for all of the work, but if you got charged two hrs just to do this, you got ripped off.

Go to hd Web Site and look up the grips and download the pdf on the instructions. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the directions show the wire for the left side to be routed outside the bar.

Yeah; I tried that but they aren't posted on their site for those.

Thanks for all the response - I guess I just ASSUMED that for two hours of labor the wire wouldn't look so backyard - my fault I guess for not asking ahead of time. I go to this dealer because they are usually very fair - especially compared to the other three that I have here in Vegas.

On the plus side I had the opportunity to use them Sunday morning and they got really nice and hot - worked very well. If I have to live with the wire that way then I guess I do.

Yeah the heater grip wiring runs adjacent to the TBW wiring (right grip) and that was internal in my stock bars. Wonder how many times they cut corners like that with no one saying anything....betcha a lot.

Thanks for the information - as I state before I should have asked more questions and investigated a bit. They work well anyway
