A dark grey ...metal flake ? not a common color, nice contrast with black and chrome, and could always be made to pop with just about any pinstripe or graphic ?
I .... dont want to have a bike that looks just like everyone else's, and i dont want it to be boring.......
If that is true, you should keep the purple. Purple is always a limited edition color for Harley so there are very few on the road. It takes a real man to ride a purple Harley. I get lots of complements on my bike, especially from attractive women. I get approached at gas stations and parking lots almost every time I'm parked.
If it's not really true, paint it "vivid black" or, if you feel really daring, "denim black." You might want to put a beeper on it though so you can find it in the crowd.
The situation on my bike was exactly the opposite of what you describe. My bike was "previously owned" and appeared on the dealer website before it appeared on the floor. I put a hold on it before I saw it. When I went in to buy it, there were literally 2 guys waiting in line behind me to buy it if I didn't go through with the purchase.
Bottom line though, it's a matter of taste. I like purple, you don't. But why ask US what YOU should like? (Even though I'd never buy one, there are actually alot of people out there who LIKE black bikes, believe it or not! )
I bought a 2011 Street Glide with the Phychedelic Purple paint. It had been sitting on the showroom floor for a very long time and the dealer needed to move it to make room for the 2012's, so he gave me a price that i couldnt refuse. I figured that i would ride it for a few months to see if it would "grow on me". Well it didnt. I saved up all summer and now i will send it to the painter while it is down for the winter. The problem is that i have no imagination or design skills. I am thinking that i want to go with 1 solid color, but i dont want to have a bike that looks just like everyone else's, and i dont want it to be boring. Does anyone have any idea's? Have you seen a color on a bike and thought "damn that looks badass!"? I tend to prefer darker colors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
By Psychedelic Purple are you refering to Merlo Sunglo? I, too, have an '11 SG in Merlo Sunglo. I love the color, but it needs something to make it pop. Kinda dull by itself. I consulted with a local hot shot bike painter and he came up with a great idea. We're gonna take off the tank badge and run a 2 1/2" or so bright gold stripe(outlined in a red pinstrip) down the tank, continuing across the side covers and carrying down the bags (narrowing down to a point). Then the tank badge goes back on within the gold stripe. Sort of like the '07 RG's. It can be done over the stock paint and then covered w/ clearcoat. He did a rendition and I think its going to kick ***. Saves a whole bunch of money from a full on paint job. I had never thought about painting over stock paint. Just a thought from outside the box. I'll post pics when it's done. Please do the same.
I find it interesting that so many people like the browns. I know it's personal taste but brown is like the worst color on a bike I can think of. It just reminds me of old Chrysler mini-vans. Sorry. But hey...
Street Glide you say...unique...how about a good old fashioned candy cranberry. And I like the candy blue like cbears said.
+1 on hating the browns and +1 on the candy cranberry. Now that's a special color!

This isn't a bad idea. I, too, tend to be drawn in to darker colors. Harley has a "Dark Gray" paint they use as a special order for police bikes. Saw one out of the corner of my eye one day and it really drew me in. Had subtle silver pinstriping, looked really sharp.
Quality of the pic is not great, better one is too big to upload, but hopefully gets the idea across.

How good is your painter? My suggestion is that you look at a few custom paint jobs and if you like a particular style and/or color, get a photo and show it to your painter. Then the two of you can put your heads together and come up with a scheme. You may find that you like a particular scheme but would like it in a different color. Here are a few photos I took in the last few years. Maybe one will trip your hidden creative button. Good luck.
