+2 "Nature of the Beast"!

I'm lucky I have a slope I stop on and the bike rolls backwards with me on it all the way into the garage without any effort other than balancing it and steering it.

I was worried about how the tour glide would fit in my garage when I bought it. I got lucky that my grandpa built this garage a little longer than most. Even with a workbench I can position my van so I can park my bike behind it next to the main door during the riding season. Then I park it in the back of the garage by the workbench for winter.

At 52,000 I've been listening and waiting for the need for new bearings too. My front ones concern me the most. Whenever I turn to the left I get some kind of drag feeling in the handlebars.

Had them inspected and repacked so I'm thinking it's a slight drag from the brake pads. No other problems other than a drag feeling. Doesn't give me any kind of noise. Can't duplicate it when lifted to spin wheel.

It's one of those "wait and see" issues.

Yep! Living the "high life" (lol) with my 2003 AWD GMC Safari, and my 1986 Tour Glide. Wife even has a '08 Malibu. Makes for a cozy garage.

All kidding aside I feel very lucky to have a garage. It ain't much but it really helps in the winter months here in MI.

Default You really need to lift the rear tire and rotate it slowly

That way you'll be able to discern between the brake pads or the tranny. I've recently discovered an unusual grinding from the area of the tranny sprocket when I rotate the rear tire slowly.

Cool Nope - Clutch Hub

Nope - it turned out to be my Clutch Hub and Bearing were shot

All the threads on the hub just fell apart - now it made sence what I was hearing only when hot....

Hub needs to be pressed out - sitting at San Jose Harley I'm waiting for parts.

The Tranny sounds perfect when I roll her through the gears while she is all apart

If you hear somthing in the Primary area, do not let it go......Rear Brake pads , Wheel Bearings - do not make sounds near the Primary area

Tech Tip: I used my "butter" open end tool that came with the bike see

thank you for having the sense to check instead of drinking the koolaid. everyone should knnow the difference between pad drag, wheel bearing noise, and primary area noise.

good luck on your rebuild
