Nice looking floorboards. I took the heel shifter off of my bike in the dealers parking lot. My boots are just to big to fit on the floorboard with both shifters.

Before deciding on a Street Glide, I rented one for a couple days while I was in Florida. I never did get comfortable with the heel shifter and found that my feet (left foot in particular) didn't fit completely on the floor boards. so, after buying my bike and waiting for it to be shipped to me, I ordered the extenders from Harley Goodies. After putting the extenders on, my feet fit fully on the boards. I may put the heel shifter back on at some point but I really like the way everything fits right now.

Thumbs up Heel Shifter?

I've owned 11 bikes, my Street Glide being the first one with a heel shifter. Never had a problem up or down shifting without one on my first 10 bikes.

From the moment I took it for a test ride at the dealer, I was bugged by the heel shifter. The only thing it did was get in the way of my moving my foot around on the footboard.

Took it off the second I got home with the new bike. Added Harleys own litle doo-dad to cover the end of the shaft.

I still can't figure out what the damn thing was for!

I went from a Honda 750 to no bike for 20 years to an Ultra Classic Electra Glide. Shifted with the toe shifter only at first. Then bought a pair of riding boots and the toe wouldn't fit under the toe so I used the heel shifter and never looked back. Hard to imagine not having a heel shifter now.

^ Your shift levers are mounted on a splined shaft. They slide off, and can be indexed wherever to fit your needs.
