My '84 FXR just got rear-ended and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the fork but my handlebars are loose and I was wondering what might be wrong before I start breaking things down. They move forward and backwards when you push and pull on them, I cant see anything from the outside either. What might be wrong?
the bars are mounted on rubber bushings- $12 will replace them. the barmounts go through the bushings, the 5/8" nuts are on the bottom of the triple tree ( you may have to remove the fairing- or maybe you can get to this if you pull the headlight and mount...)
have the alignment checked, the rubber motor mounts could be torn, the swingram bushings and cleve blocks too.
if insurance is paying dump in the hands of a professional.
easy alignment check is 8 foot fluorescent light tubes on each side of the rear tire- the gap between the tubes and the front wheel should be identical
welcome to the forums BTW there are forums dedicated to evos, shovels and older models.
