Component speaker location
I know! Another speaker thread, but I've never seen this question addressed. I am going to put 6 1/2" speakers in my fairing and lowers of my SG. (I've kind of settled on Focals, but I am interested in other opinions.) I'm going w/one set of coax and one set of components w/ the tweeters replacing my air temp gauge and voltage gauge. Does anybody have any real life experience as to what would be the better way to go for the best sound? Do I mount the coax's in the bat wing w/ the component woofer in the lower or do I put the component woofer in the batwing and the coax's in the lower? Thanks.

I have my co-ax in the fairing and the components in the lowers+lower gauge holes. Sounds good! It would probably work either way??? If I take the lowers off I'll still have extra highs.

Just curious what speakers you used. Amp?

I have JL C2 6.5"s with a JL 400/4 amp and Kenwood head unit. There are better speakers out there but at 80 ya can't tell and I don't sit around listening to my bike stereo in the parking lot.

I have Focal VB 165 components installed in my 09 FLHT. I swapped guage spots, putting the fuel/volt meter guages in the lower holes and putting the tweeters in the upper holes. It makes a BIG difference since the upper holes are 3" higher/1" out on center from the lower holes and slightly angled in a bit toward the rider. The fuel/volt guages are clearly visible in the lower holes. You will really enjoy the Focals and their awesome musical detail ...

The tweeters are a bit to small for those holes, how did you make them fit?

My Electraglide Standard came with gauge hole covers. I cut a hole and mounted the tweeters in them. They pop right in the gauge holes.

Yes, they mount right up. Have hard bags and cheap trunk for trips but like the different look of the leather bags.
