Default exhaust help

i have a 99 road king MM efi reinhart slipons stage 1 i have a doebeck tfi.

i have been geting lots of decel pop and havent been able to tune the bike in properly so reading all the threads i see possible exhaust leak.

i decided to remove entire exhaaust and replace gaskets to make sure good seal. i took my time got it all off. I removed front gasket, went to remove rear gasket at head and there wasnt one. Maybe found the cause.

would this also cause my bike to idle very low once the bike warms up. my thinking is when i when the engine gets hot the air is drawn in and making it idle low, or am i completly off. bike seems to idle at about 1200 rpm on start up, once it warms up seems to drop to 800 if i had to guess.

sorry if i am all over the place on this one. any help or coments greatly appreciated. getting the exhaust back on should be fun.

That's wild that there was no rear exhaust port gasket. Put some silver anti-seize on the exhaust flange bolts b4 you put the nuts back on. You can put the gaskets in the freezer and it will make them a little easier to get seated, but I find them still a bitch. Use some anti-seize at the header-muffler connection point as well. Makes them much easier to remove later.

Hard to say about the idle mystery. The header pipe may have been tight enough to prevent suck-in, but guess you won't know until you get it back together. I don't think that 800 to 900 rpm is all that low, but maybe it is for your model. You say it "seems", so I am assuming that you don't have a tach. Hope all turns out good.

universal joint, extension, maybe a deepwell, or a combination of all three?

If youre using the flat type gasket, like the SE or James, if they get coated w/ exhaust they can be almost invisible in the port. Use a small screwdriver or pick to double check. Running with no gasket makes loud noises & shows up immediately after firing. I dont think the gasket has any affect on the low idle.

Back exhaust nut is a pain for sure. I use a 1/4" drive, 1/2" 12 point swivel socket to get to all the exhaust nuts. It works good enought to get a TQ wrench on it. Sears, Lowes & others have them fairly cheap.

+1 0n the 1/4 drive 1/2 inch swivel socket. As far as idle, pull a/c off and on bottom right side of intake is a small torx fitting you can turn warm idle up or down, whichever you need.

Hey I appreciate it guys. If I turn that torx fitting is there a special procedure I must follow or just turn accordingly to get idle up
