My right front fork is leaking again! I just had it all a part and replaced the seal and know it's leaking again? This is the second time. You think there maybe something wrong with either the fork tube or slider? Now I got to take it all apart again. The first time I put new fork sliders on. What;s up??
Hmm, I installed new seal. Rode for about a week and then noticed the leak. It was fine after I changed the seal for a while and now it's leaking again. Maybe too much oil or too much air pressure blew the seal. I do remember hitting on last ride I buttomed out the front suspension when I ran over some RR tacks.
Found the problem. I took it off and inspected the fork tube. There are several small nicks in the tube probably caused by when I was inserting the seal. So, now I need a new fork tube.
If you nicked the tube, check the seal lip with a magnifying glass to see if there are any nicks in it. You can sand/polish the tube to remove any raised area that can be cutting the seal lip. Use very fine emery paper, like 1200 or better to do it. Its a crap shoot if that fixes it or not.
If you're tired of taking your bike apart (and I think you are) replace the tube, bushings and seal. If you do all three it'll be the last time you have to take it apart.
Do not install the seal with the tube in the slider (don't think I really have to mention that, but what the hell).
