After buying a 2013 CVO S/E Ultra in September my wallet was a little too flat to also pay for the ESP at that time, but I will have it and the tire and wheel coverage before the riding season starts next year.
What I did do, which I believe is more important, was having the Rinehart XT True Duals installed along with the SERT and a dyno tune.
Getting rid of the catalytic converter (IMHO) and giving the bike more fuel is the best thing that you can do for your bike.
After this, I still average +/- 40 MPG so it's not like is costs me a lot of extra money to run the bike a little more lean (and cooler.
THe guy that I ride most with bought a new 2010 UC and he bought the ESP, which turned out to be a blessing for him, and his bike.
By the time he decided to have a new exhaust system (Fullsac headed and V&H Monster Ovals) his "96" was trashed.
THE ESP paid for replacement parts and he paid to upgrade it to a "103".
I kept my last UC 13 years (80,000 miles) so I'm sure that in time the ESP will be a good investment for me on my new bike.
i bought one for my 99 ultra and wound up with cam bearing change 76000 miles, and a new motor rebuild at 97000 miles plus 2 regulators and 1 stator! well worth the money!! bought it for my 2012 SG
Leaning toward adding this on my '12 CVO Street Glide. Was hoping some current members would chime in on the pros/cons of doing it. Current warranty expires 07/14. Would now be the time to opt in or wait until right before the warranty goes out. I will have this bike at least 3-5 riding seasons. Thanks!
Extended warranties are a total waste of money. You will hear from an extremely small percentage of those who actually benefited from them. Most do not. just Google "extended warranties worth it" or something like that and see what is said.
I have never had a bike long enough to need the extended plan. If I got a bike I was going to own for a very long time and ride the wheels off fo, it may make sence. I put on about 15000 miles a year and trade every 3-4 years.
My 09 with 30159 miles, has an oil leak, and faulty lifters. Wish I had the ESP.
I'd say get it. And... get it from Jim Palmer @ Kutter. Too much crap to go wrong on these bikes and quality control / parts seems to have gone downhill.
So far for me it's been two tires, inner primary bearing, rear shift lever, front wheel bearings and some various electrical relating to the radio and lighting.
My cost at Kutter was $1485 for the 7 year with T & W. Purchased in March of 2011.
Just my opinion, but over the past 33+ years, I have both neglected to buy and have bought extended warranties (never a maintenance package). Regardless, I have never been able to use them because the vehicles were sold/traded before they expired or I kept the vehicles well past the expiration date of the warranty and then I had an issue that required the warranty but too late and had to pay out of pocket. So it sucks to be me, but I am going to gamble on no extended warranty. If a vehicle exhibits problems as a "Lemon" within the original factory warranty, get rid of it ASAP. Otherwise ride the crap out of it and have fun! Remember, it's a electronic/mechanical device, so it will FAIL sooner or later!

I'm with you on that. The only extended warranty I have purchased was for my big screen TV and now I kick myself for buying that but it wasn't that expensive. I figure if something is going to break, it should within the first few months/year and then the original warranty will cover it. Plus, if somethings breaks afterwards, I would rather fix it myself and know the jobs done correctly. But that's just me...
I had an HD ESP on my 05 Ultra that I purchased used. Within 1500 of purchase the cam chain tensioners failed...Then the rear exhuast pipe blew a hole in it, then the stator failed, then the tour pak luggage rack broke, then the regulator failed, and got 3 tires under the tire and wheel coverage. Oh and complete engine, trans and primary reseal!!! The ESP paid out 3 times what I paid for the contract!!!
Did I purchase an ESP on my 2012 Ultra Limited....You bet your sweet bippy!!!
