Call me lazy or stupid but any job that requires the purchase of special tools I don't have I leave to my Indy. I've worked hard all my life and can now afford to pay someone to do the grunt work thankfully. :-) Plus, that way I know it gets done right the first time which in the end is ( for me at least) cheaper.
More power to and all the respect to guys who can and want do it themselves but I"m not one of them by choice and circumstance.
The HD trike has a 30 tooth and is half the price of most others.
Part number 83595-11.
And Evolution Industries has boatloads of gears for the primary. http://www.evolution-industries.com/dyn4.aspx
This will mess up your 6th gear indicator and cruise control. Can be reset with some tuners.
I hear ya, Thats why I'm gonna let them do the install while the bikes in for the fairing and bar replacement. They have to pull the stock headpipe to do the cams and are putting the V&H headpipe back in the stockers place to get rid of the cat/heat issue. I'm not Lazy just dont want to take a chance on a Bike that cost more that all my other ones over the past 25 years!! The days of 800- 1500 dollar bikes are long gone for this guy
Sounds like a smart choice, Tequilla, as the cams will give you the wanted extra torque and response without sacrificing mileage or top end speed by shortening the gearing. You also avoid having to recalibrate the speedo, etc.
You may see a slight decrease in mpg depending on how hard you get on it with the new cams but nothing compared to lowering the gearing I'm betting.

I'm right with you there Thomas! Pulling the primary off is where I draw the line.
I have a 07 ultra with IDS. If I go to a 30T transmission pulley for better low end:
- will the cruise control still work?
- will the speedometer be correct?
I new a belt change anyway so now is the time if I going to do something.
on the 07-08 lower gearing won't hurt milage, can't even use 6th till 65(solo with no wind or gear) even then its on the verge of lugging.49 tooth clutch basket gear will lower it some and will not mess with cruise or light on 07,08 its a maybe on the light and cruise.
