There is no antidote or cure. A friend of mine leaves a nightlight on and the radio playing softly so his Harley doesn't scared or lonely. And yes it cost him a marriage. I liked his bike better than his old lady anyhow.
Rest assured you are not the only one that is ate-up with it.
A lot of us just pull up a chair and sit in the garage (carport) crack a tinnie, and light up a cigar. It's like looking at naked women, never gets old. My wife even refers to "Harleigh"' as my mistress. I'm glad she understands, she bought her for me!
Welcome to the club, HD is definitely an obsession. Just when I got one bike the way I liked it I sold it and got another. This form is great and can cost some $, lots of good advice here. Congrats & enjoy your HD.
it is a sickness... garage jewlery OCD. love ridin' 'em and love lookin' at 'em....especially with a cold beer in hand....when lookin' that is.... soon to put 'em away with the dealer into winter storage. negotiating with the dealer for "visitation" privelages or at least a web cam pointed at them.... could be a long winter...
I have owned 2 dozen streetbikes, dirtbikes & quads, and 4 sandrails over my short 40 years of life. The last bike I had was an RT BMW. The only thing that I ever did to it was tires, oil and a ton of miles.
I bought my first Harley in September, about 1000 miles ago. The thing is heavy and slow - and it corners like a John Deere Tractor... BUT I LOVE IT!!! I can't stop buying stuff for it. I am seriously addicted it. I find myself talking to it and aways wiping it down. Am I effed-up or what?
Is there an antidote?
NOPE! I bought a 2009 SG brand new then threw thousands of dollars at it for 3 years only to trade it in for a 2012 CVO Street Glide which you would think I wouldn't have to put thousands of dollars into right? WRONG, I already have a list of sh%t I want to do and it ain't cheap!!! Welcome to the club!
When you find a cure let me know! Ridden Metrics for 30 years ... Last year bought a 48, this year added a Road King. Stuck in China, dreaming of stuff to add ....... addicted for sure and I must admit, only antidote is CASH!!
You see, all sport bikes have going for them is speed. They offer the rider nothing else, absolutely nothing. They are built for the track. So that's why everyone with a sport bike is always going fast, cause that's all the sport bike offers. It's got nothing else.
In addition to speed, sport bikes offer handling, agility and good braking. In fast traffic, I'd feel safer on a sport bike than a Harley. I love my Road King but if I want to go someplace in a hurry I take my BMW K1100RS, which is which is about as sporty as my aging body can handle. And I do have fond memories of my GSXR days.
I'm surprised how well my RGC handles. Coming off a softail, (not exactly nimble, mind you) I figured riding a touring bike would be like having sex with a fat chick. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bike is well balanced, fun on the highway and in the twisties and is a breeze to maneuver at parking lot speed. After about 2 days on the Glide I didn't miss the softail anymore!
