Default speaker weight

I'm about to install my third set of batwing speakers, and the new ones are heavy. At 2.2 lb are they too heavy?

Stock batwing speaks are 0.875 lb (so I read on this forum). I've had Kicker 5 1/4", at 0.878 lb; Focal 165 CA1 (6 1/2"), at 1.87 lb; and now I'm going to Focal PC 165 (6 1/2"), at 2.2 lb. I've also read that Hog Tunes 5 1/4" are 1.75 lb and Hertz 6 1/2" are 2.5 lb.

When I took the PC 165s out of the box they felt really heavy. Are they too heavy? Anything sound as good while being much lighter? Anyone come up with an effective brace to support these beasts?

Hey Jef;

Do you have the new updated brackets from HD, the old style would break with even the stock 5.25's in there. I have not experienced any breakage with the new bracket, Even the big KRX2 line from Focal which are at least double that weight.

DCC -- Thank you. I don't know if I have updated brackets. I have an 09 SG. Do you know if they were standard in 09? I've seen you in a couple of these conversations. Had I seen you earlier I would have bought the PCs from you. Thanks again.

Anyone else know when the brackets were adopted and/or a part number?

I guess this is a bump. That bad? ...

Does anyone make very high qualify 6.5" spkrs with lightweight magnets? Is it even possible?

One of the service techs at my local Dealership BHHD said that the Hog Tunes speakers were too heavy for the batwing and that he had seen issues with them during the Sturgis rally, due to the influx of folks that come out here. I had them in mine, but did not experience any issues, but they are fairly heavy.

I would like a speaker like the focal, but without the weight.
I am running Kicker's now w/the little Hog Tunes amp, and they're ok, but that's about it.

The Kickers sound as good as did the Hog Tunes and they are half the weight, so it's not all about the size of the magnets I don't think.

I think that Kickers have some other speakers out too that I might have to research.

Try the Polk MM651, neodymium magnets, very light, high power handling, sound great!
