Just bear in mind that not all batteries are created equal. Just because it is the same physical size does not mean they are equal in CCA or RA ratings.
...c'mon...less than 3 years?..a LOT of them?...sorry..no way...
if you read the battery threads, you will see that indeed, a lot of batteries do not make it 3 years. while others will make 6, 7, or 8. i've had mixed. out of 6 hds, i've had to replace 3 batteries. 2 sportsters, 4 years, never replaced the battery. 2 road kings, 4 years, had to replace 1 battery after 3 years, 2 road glides, one is a 2012 so i better not have to replace the battery, the other is a 2010, just had to replace it.
Ok,,, so three years is typical,,, or not typical, LOL, who cares, I imagine mine is toast, Thanks for the ideas on Batteries Plus,, guess I need to change my signature and stuff, don't live in St. Peters, Mo anymore,, sold our house the week before Thanksgiving, and have lived in Goldsboro, NC for 1.5 years. Bought a house here, building a 36x48 man cave in the back yard! The LORD has Blessed us for sure.
There's a Batteries Plus here too, do I need to take the old one in or do they know what I need?
They have charts to show which battery fit's your bike, same as your car. My experience with batteries is you get what you pay for. Duracell is better than rayovac, John deere batteries last longer than Mills Fleet farm and Harley Batteries last longer than Batteries plus. And........I have 8 frick'in Battery Minder Pluses. It's all in the specs man !
On the Harley batteries I got 4 to 5 years out of them. On the cheaper ones I get 3 to 4 years. Now keep in mind there are many variables to this question. Where you store the bike, how often you ride and so on.
For years I made my living working on bikes and the people that road theirs every day had less problems then those that rode a few times a month.
One thing I recommend is to check to see if the battery bolts are tight.
Riding and storage temperatures, frequency of charging, either by tender or riding and charging at the correct voltage are ever so important.

Batteries Plus is where I got my Odyssey. Like you said, 'it's all in the specs man'...
