Today was a rather mild day 50's however the roadways here are encrusted in salt from previous freezing weather. I saw quite a few bikes on the road today & later in the day a shower passed through the area making the roadways wet & salty. Why would anybody ride a $20,000 Harley Davidson in these conditions.
My bike is a 2012 FLHX that I put another $10,000 into, I would not even think of riding it in a salt bath........As long as its not my bike I guess I should not complain.
Some are owners and some are riders. All you have to do is hose it off real well when you get home. In my opinion why spend that much money and let it sit. Just my 2 cents worth.
I understand that some buy bikes for different reasons. I bought mine to ride. If I was too worried about mine I would have never road to Alaska. Do not get me wrong even with all the road scares mine have I get complements every day how it looks. Even at 12 years and 90K miles I have had many tell me they thought it was new.

Ride it like you stole it then rinse it off and store it

Get a lot of snow, ice and salt in Macon do you?
Come up here where live and see if you have the same attitude about who is a rider
I moved down to NC in 2004. Before that I lived in the Salt Capital of Ohio, Cleveland. That's where the International and Morton salt mines are located. Salt is cheap and plentiful there.
If the roads were dry, I rode regularly. If we had a heat wave, ( 50's in January,) I rode more. I washed them off when I got home. My bikes always looked great given their mileage. Pay special attention to alumiinum wheels, the rest of the bike is pretty much bulletproof if cleaned regularly. .
Even with my Harleys, the bikes serve me, not the other way around....
....I'm just south of Boston on the south shore of Mass....anytime it hits 40 degrees or higher during the winter..I try and take mine out for a spin..as long as the roads are cleared....helps the bike...and helps my brain...just hose her off and it's fine..what's thew big deal?...I have zero rust or pitting after 7 years of ownership....
