Hello. I have been searching all last night and today so I thought I would start a thread and ask for help. I have a 2009 RK that all of the sudden started having issues starting and running. It ran great for 100 miles yesterday. Then on one stop yesterday, I walked out to it and hit the start button. It took a few cranks then started in limp mode (I assume). Only the first cylinder was running. Scared the crap out of the friends with me who have dynas. I had heard about limp/parade mode on here but I shut it off. Tried again.....same thing. Waited about one beer's worth and the bike started on both cylinders. Ran real rough all the way home and would barely idle. Backfired the whole time. Here is the weirdest part - the clock on the dash went to 12:00 and it still has 12:00 even today. The last few time I rode it ran fine but I did notice a slight hesitation before starting. I just thought maybe the battery is getting weak but it tested fine
Runs the same with fuelpak on or off. Been on for 1.5 years
battery connections are good. Is there another ground I should check?
unhooked batter then reconnected
pulled big fuse and put it back in
codes at first check (p0132, p0154, p1356, p1511, p2101)
after clearing codes because I thought they all be old, there are no codes after letting bike idle
the clock is really weird and it might be the clue but haven't found anything yet
What else am I missing here? Thanks in advance for any ideas
so, the codes are really pointing to the fact that I did experience limp mode for the first time. Odd that it was after the bike had set for 30 min. The code p2101 has me reading about https://www.box.com/shared/x12e326mvi which is the TT418 page. I do have throttle response thought and never lost it. I'll keep reading. Let me know if you all think of something. I'll check back in a bit
The clock going to 12:00 suggests that maybe the electric power was cut off momentarily. I would go back and disconnect and clean all connections to the battery and bike. That includes those to the starter. Check the connections to the induction module and the TMAP sensor. Look inside the module and make sure it isn't gunked up with oil deposits. You can buy a special cleaner for it if it is. Other than that it could be something screwy with the TBW circuit. Good luck
That is what I was thinking about the 12:00 diplay. Has to be a power thing. I would have thought it would start keeping time but it doesn't seem to remember. Good advice about the connectors. I'll head down this path when I get to the garage tonight. Thanks for the reply
Well, this tells a bunch. Thought I would share it with you all. I gapped the plug and the bike runs great. Stock plugs so I will get some new ones but man......what caused that gap to close? Think something inside hit it? I was running about 80 -85 for a stretch before we stopped.

Wow..that is not good. If your running the right plugs you have something coming apart in the combustion chamber thats hitting that plug. I hope your still under warranty!
Are your buds playing games with your plug at the bar while you are inside?
HahaHaha ...they are that type but not to someone's stuff. They were freaked out when I ran it on one cylinder. They never knew about limp mode. They are the stock plugs so they should be correct. I do have a 10 year unlimited mile powertrain warranty. My 15k service is due on 12/14. I'll let you guys know what they say. I don't here any noises when it runs now. I wonder if combustion can close that gap? Does that sound stupid?
Agreed something 'funny' is going on with this. First up with that plug electrode/ground strap contact you would have never started on 2 cylinders as you mentioned in your first post.
Further, if it were contact damage from something in the head rattling around, the plug tip would have been beaten to death instead of looking as if it was just bent over the electrode.
Did you reset the clock to see if it kept time after?
I gotta go with Joe on this one.... either someone is having fun with you, or you are having fun with us. :-)
I wish I was joking bud. I did reset the clock after I realized I had to set it before it would start keeping time. It is keeping time. Does everything reset when limp mode is activated? Never had it happen before but the codes show the system determined something was wrong
